MegaCommand // MCL 4.43

I’m unable to install the DFU driver on Windows 10, latest version, on a Legion 5.

The problem I’m having is that this step doesn’t work:

  1. Select “Restart“.
  2. A menu will appear where you can press “7” on your keyboard to choose “Disable driver signing enforcement“.

That menu never appears for me. Tried disabling secure boot and AMD Platform Security Processor in the BIOS and disabling driver signing with these commands, but still I get an error when I try to install the .inf file that the file isn’t signed.

bcdedit /set nointegritychecks on
bcdedit /set testsigning on

In slightly more detail-

Click on the start menu;
Type: CMD, right click on “Command Prompt” and run as administrator.
Copy and paste the following commands:
bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

bcdedit / deletevalue loadoptions

bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF

Restart the computer and retest.

Thanks. Though unfortunately doing that didn’t remove the error message.

Any left overs in stock? Looking for one for my md mk1.
Cheers mate

Hi Everyone - my studio is finally reassembled after months in storage. I’ve managed to get my MDUWmkII and MM updated with the latest X. firmwares (Thank you @JustinValer ). I’m now on to updating my MegaCommand, which is a DIY model made by @mbang . I have updated to 4.20, and now I’m wondering if I can apply the USB upgrade as well. The notes say the USB mass storage is only applicable to the units made by Justin (MegaCMD), not a DIY MegaCommand - but I’m not sure if that’s also true of the class-compliant USB MIDI upgrade as well?

Hi man, nice to see you write! Sorry, the usb is for megacmd only. Megacommand as i built it will do its last life cycle (batch-wise) in the coming month, then i will ONLY be doing deluxe MCL units; i will make maybe one or two a month, max. The cool thing about these are that they have cases in solid 2,5 mm aluminum. I will handcraft them, make all the holes and saw the rectangular openings, for screen and such.
They will also be thoroughly worked on surface -wise if course! Atm i have a working prototype where ive polished and scrubbed the metal to a shine, and then used different tools to work the surface to try to find the best looking solution. I am quite pleased but can better the finish a lot i think.
It depends if im going for a picture perfect copy of the MD or if i settle with something that looks good/cool…

Anyway, sorry about the usb.

Guys, i will return with more status updates. Would a unit like that be interesting? Or should i just make one for myself?
Cheers!

Yeah - I’m looking through the docs - it looks like I could get the USB class compliant update working but it would require opening up the box and shorting the pins to get it into DFU mode? I probably won’t go to the trouble for that. I’ll see how I get along with 4.20 as it is - but I do think the mass storage (easier sample transfer to MachineDrum) would be useful.

Keep me in the loop regarding your deluxe units - if they could support the USB mass storage aspect like MegaCMD I might be interested!

Is this the place for feature requests?
I would like a mode where the MD is 16 Part Multi-timbral over MIDI. Each channel its own midi input channel (setting).

Hi, I have a question re: the MCL. Is it possible to externally sync the MD with ableton if you are using MCL? How would you go about doing this? Can MCL receive MIDI clock data from the second MIDI input?

Yes you can sync externally, from the manual…

You’ll need a usb to midi cable tho.

you can also update the megacommand to sync from USB midi

Thanks. I read somewhere that midi clock was unstable when sync’d externally and resulted in glitchy audio. Is this typically an issue or is it normally fine?

Midi clock sync hasnt been an issue for me, i sync my MD to an mpc live. The only issue i have from time to time is when i play the buttons on the MD while im sync’d to the mpc, performance seems a little sluggish. Like it’s not glitchy audio persay, more like i wouldnt rely on it for finger drumming cause it seems like it has some sort of quantized thing going on, which maybe it does now that i say that out loud lol. Brb.

Hi everyone, I’m considering buying a megacommand for my Machinedrum mkII UW, either used or from a builder.

I’m basically already sold, but could someone clarify a couple of things for me, please?

  1. If I understand correctly one of the differences between a jmamma’s MegaCMD and a DIY one is that the latter cannot be upgraded to a class compliant USB midi device.
What are the benefits of having that?
  2. In your experience, is the clock stability of the Machinedrum tighter, looser, or more or less the same when hooked to a Megacommand and synced externally?

Thank you

both MegaCMD and DIY can be upgraded to class compliant.
MegaCMD has USB disk drive feature. I am out of stock of MegaCMDs.

The MD’s clock is generally pretty stable, but the internal sequencer can bounce around a bit.

MCL doesn’t generate a MIDI clock, it uses the MD clock, or external clock on port 2. The MCL sequencer will perform better than the MD’s internal sequencer. There is less jitter.

So on the DIY possible file transfers from/to pc have to be done over midi cables, whereas on the MegaCMD it could be done over USB, right?

That’s very good to know, thanks.
And man, EPIC work on the Machinedrum X OS  .

Removable SD card if you want to transfer samples, projects etc.

Hey guys Hoping you can help with an problem. I have both the MCL and MD running latest firmwares. I have assigned a MID13 to Track14 because i want to sequence an external drum machine. THAT WORKS FINE. But i’m missing a Chromatic Keyboard (like on the OT) to play the drum kit from the external drum machine. Then I realized that the MCL has that Chromatic Keyboard feature. But i can’t for life of me figure out how to get it to work. Using a midi monitor i can see that its not outputting any notes only sysex messages hence no sound from the external drum machine. What am i doing wrong or is this even possible?
