Midi ARP goes +1 oct?

Hi guys, yesterday i’ve noticed something not really clear.

I created an Arp in Midi track for ch.11 (it is the AUTO channel for A4) to play a track on A4.

Then i reproduced the very same Arp on the A4 (Note etcs…)

Nothing strange except for the octave:

the arp played by OT is one octave above the arp played by the A4.

If -12 transpose the OT’s arp they are identical…

Any ideas?

Yep. There is no standard for octave numbering notation.

In music in general, not just with midi, there is no definite way to know which C is, say, C4. I know midi from the OT is an octave off from the MD.

Weird it is not consistent with gear from a single small manufacturer.

oh, thanks! that’s fine so!

At least muting midi track on OT leaves the A4 arp going. Un-muting will switch it one octave above…could be useful…

Concerning the midi-specs it actually is standardized, Midi Note 69 should be an A, 440Hz:

But there are a lot of things in-between, the tuning of oscillators or samples for example. And also manufactures do not always stick to the specs. A bit of a mess really, especially if you work with gear that doesn’t allow transposition of incoming midi notes to compensate different offsets.
