Model:Cycles Feature Requests Thread

The only thing I really really really want is an attack parameter

Another couple ideas:

-Pattern time shift: 123456 can be shifted +/- ie. 234561 612345 etc.
-Select to lock track parameters/prevent changes on a per-track basis while doing a CTRL ALL change.

Hold TRACK and turn the level knob

wow cool! thanks! had to figure out it only works in record mode but that makes sense!

I realized there might be a reason why the preset levels aren’t matched. It’s because the VOLUME + DIST parameter is indeed also distortion. Some presets have distortion added, and as anyone who’s used Model:Cycles knows, distortion can change the sound dramatically. So unless TRACK LEVEL is stored as a part of the preset, preset level matchng isn’t possible without sacrificing the actual way the preset sounds.

Then to my feature requests:

  1. Chord machine has an audible click in the beginning if you set the decay to short. It seems like the decay parameter also controls the attack value a tiny bit. Personally, I don’t like this feature and would prefer the attack to be smoother. Or even better, for the attack to be adjustable.

  2. I’d like for the retrigs to be quantized to the beat. (Like in e.g. Arturia Beatstep Pro). Currently, rolls can sound really bad unless you’re super tight with your timing.

  3. I’d like for the swing parameter to also affect retrigs. Currently the results sound very strange and bad if you mix e.g. swung 1/16th notes and an unswung retrig.

  4. Tom and clap machines/LFOs. Currently, it’s difficult to get these kinds of sounds out of the M:C.

A tap tempo for the delay would be cool!

Yep, this was one of the things I raised when I was making some of the presets. I ended up keeping things a bit more tame as a result, especially my patterns. Some of my favourite stuff I made with the machine came from maximising the level of all of the tracks and overdriving the machine, but resulted in some patterns being way too loud compared to others!

Just a reminder that every cost a manufacturer adds the consumer pays about 4 times as much. Elektron has to make a profit and so do their distributors. So would you be willing to pay $200-$80 more for $50-$20 more CPU?

Obvious (I"m probably misunderstanding) but even when using the volume level to adjust after you’ve got the optimum amount of overdrive?

You should be able to still match aggregate volume pattern to pattern if you tweak the levels at that stage.

My new pattern volume levels start the same, I add a little overdrive, and then when each track sounds good I always loop back to mix and usually nudge the volume down so all my tracks don’t explode my earholes.

I think he means things can often sound very good when smashed against the overall headroom of the device itself (same as happens on the DN for that matter). It’s the ‘natural’ compression that also happens to glue things together or tame peaks in an individual sound. At least that’s how I read it.

Yep, this exactly. It has a really nice overdrive that comes from turning everything up.

But yeah, also, individual patches don’t save track levels either, so some of the heaviest stuff will naturally be louder than the more subtle sounds.

I actually don’t bother with saving patches anymore, most of the sounds I make work best in the context of the pattern.

  1. Step/Trig Copy to other track incl. all sound and seq parameter.

  2. Bounce/Mix Copy: 2 selected tracks copy (seq and sound param.) to 1 track
    with priority parameter.

  3. Randomize function ( seq and sound)

Yeah this would be a great feature across all current Elektron gear imo!

Save preset sound from parameter locked step.

This is a great idea!!!

Lots of really great ideas here.

Really like the grouping of tracks (parameter changes or one button mutes) and the Non-destructive pasteing of tracks.

My idea would be to make the “Rte” amount in the retrig menu (The division at which the retrig triggers) a mod destination on the pad menu. That way you can change how fast the Retrig happens by how hard you press the pads.

Definitely. Being able to assign pad pressure as a general modulation source (a la Rytm) would be an amazing performance tool.

Already there - maybe in 2 steps. Otherwise you would not be able to paste trigs without the sound being pasted too.

Clap machine please.
