Model:Cycles only music

I love this. I want to go and spend an evening in the bar where you are the lounge act. I think that would be a good bar/evening/show.

Hey friends!
My debut album, MODEL:CITIZEN, came out 12/31 and consists of 12 ambient-techno songs written on and with the Model:Cycles. Each song was tracked into Ableton for final arrangements, mixing, and additional effects. Every sound came from the Cycles except for some 606 and 707 sub kicks here and there.

Last Friday, I posted a companion video album on my Youtube channel. I created every video in the playlist with Touchdesigner, reacting to the audio from the album in real-time.
See the video companion album playlist here: bit.ly/modelcitizenvideoalbum

The central theme of the album is paradoxes and dichotomies. Opposites that shouldn’t exist at the same time but somehow do. When the pandemic started, I spent a lot of time looking for types of electronic music that helped put me in the zone while I was working my 9-5. Many people use chill hop or lo-fi for that, but I like synthesis. I found a lot of the music I sifted through was made for clubs or live audiences. I created this album to fill that need I was looking for but didn’t find much. It’s minimalistic and organic but also driving and organized. Put it on repeat when you need to get something done at your job. Let me know if it helped get you to a flow state.

If you’re interested in following me or learning more this will get you to the right places. DAMAGR by David Sparks (@damagr) · solo.to

I hope the Model:Cycles community digs it. This ended up becoming a love letter or sorts to the Cycles. It really helped me find my voice as a new electronic artist.

Best,
David/DAMAGR

Day 11 of jamuary and finally picked up the M:C. My modus operandi is still to come up with a pattern and just completely destroy it with track all. Audio and midi to ableton, where I use the midi tracks for some additional sequencing!

I tried to make a cover of my favorite Daniel Johnston’s song

Made a little loop this morning using the PE Tracker to sequence everything. https://youtube.com/shorts/IHKIoWyeibM?feature=share

First track of 7 for a technopop album.

Hadn’t used the M:C in while but decided to jam with it after listening to glitched’s great album RUINER. This is essentially a couple of patterns with different variations across all tracks - and plenty of live tweaking. Might have put too much distortion on the kick but was so much fun finding new sounds on this little thing.

I think you nailed your goal to make music to get into the zone…great album :+1:

also makes me want to try a Model:Cycles…maybe I should try to find a cheap used one

Here’s one.

Full disclosure, tiny bit of Acidbox for warmth.

This is some next level shit!

I can’t help but notice how sad the M:S music only thread is, that’s the box I have

There’s like one guy spamming it with YouTube videos.

Is M:S the black sheep?

I suppose I need to step up and become the Fin25 of the M:S thread :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Four out of ten tracks from my latest one, RUINER, are M:C-only!
Check out 1, 2, 6, and 8 (and 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 10!)

This is “ruiner”

The Elektronauts thread for M:S is a bit stagnant, yeah. But there are plenty of videos on youtube and some of them are high quality like this one, for example

Nice, yes this guy’s jams remind me a lot of Cenk, very capable in the way of elektron

That’s enough though, we’re not wanted here in M:C territory

Absolutely the best thing i have heard from the MC…

Lots of lovely textures and atmospheres, real ear candy for someone like me :facepunch:t2:

Damn I wish I bought a M:C when I had the chance, if only I had heard examples like this at the time. I’m not really a fan of the cheesy fm side of it, but sometimes it can sound so dirty and raw…

I think it’s just that the M:C is better as a standalone instrument, as it’s much easier to put melodic stuff and chords together without too much faff. With samplers, you often find yourself reaching for a synth or something to pair it with, but the M:C doesn’t really need it.

I reckon if you checked out every setup out there, you’d find more people making use of the M:S than the M:C.
