Moog sub25

If this is for real, it had better come in a module as well. I will never forgive them for not releasing the Sub37 in a desktop format. Hell, I still hold out hope (sigh)…

Cheers!

Makes sense, the Sub Phatty has been around for a while and seems like it was nearing the end of its run.

Very much agreed here! I love the Moog sound, but hate all of the combos required on my Minotaur, and the others all have keys. A nearly knob-per-function desktop module would be perfect.

I love my sub phatty but the aesthetic of this new one looks great. I wonder if anything other than the looks will change?

Loopop

ADDED: I’m liking the hidden parameter feature. The Randomizer is cool! Somebody will make a panel overlay with the hidden features written in.

For all the crap I dished on this about the small keyboard and octave switching, it sounds AMAZING and looks super fun.

Bummed it does not have arp or sequencer… However I have been looking at adding a Moog to play with DT / DN. So obviously I could have one of the Elektron boxes seq or arp the Sub 25 via midi and That would be cool. Newb question: could I in the same setup use the keys on the 25 to record trigs of another track on the DT / DN? In other words… Could the DT have a midi track that triggers the sub 25 and also have its keys mapped to samples loaded in DT using it as a controller at the same time?

If this is crazy, keep in mind I’m learning this stuff.

From the loopop video, I think this is possible. If you turn local control off, it still sends midi out from the keys. I think it can receive an sequence and also send out midi.

Ahh… If that is the case I think i’d be into it.
Might be a more fun than something like a Siren and Keystep.
Thanks!

Those esoteric shift functions though… Argh!

Cheers!

I think it sounds better than the Sub Phatty I used to own. Although at $849, I feel it is a bit overpriced, but that is the Moog Premium. I do wish they would have added at least an arpeggiator, or something else to make me think it wasn’t just a Sub Phatty with a paint job and a few new internals. They are definitely getting their mileage out that chassis. Speaking of chassis, the small size is definitely a plus in a small studio, but these Subs really have an ass on them. They do that weird unibody slope up thing that is nice and ergonomic when using it, but they stretch the back out really far. I wish they would chop a few inches off the back, and make it a straight back.

I was hoping for a sequencer too - guess I’ll keep mu Sub Phatty

For me it was to add to my setup of DT/DN Good bass with some fun new knobs and give me a simple set of keys. Looking at it this way I guess it is a winner because I like the sound. (so long as it can play via midi input and also send midi notes out from the keys)
Price: Feels about right for this build / Moog guts ect.
Size: Perfect! Prolly close to same width as DT/DN together. I’ll build a stand so its above or below them.
Sound: I like it from what I have gathered on the youtubes

Crazy close in price to Grandmother… However I would take the Paraphonics over the modular.
I guess I better look close at sub25 vs Siren.

3rd world problems for sure!

I dont get it. Am I missing something?
I had a sub phatty, really disliked all the cool stuff being ‘hidden’ ,so when the sub 37 came out I traded my sub phatty for that.

Sub 37 is way better for me, more lfos, more mod options, everything (pretty much) is front panel.

Now this sub 25… seems like trimming it down and hiding everything again!

Alex’s job is to sell synths, and he is damn good at it, but Im not seeing anything new here. All that midi stuff he was doing can be done with almost any well specced synth and midi sequencer.

I love my sub phatty but was hoping for at least a sequencer addition.

For what it’s worth, the Subsequent 37 solves most of the shortcomings of the 25 (although it takes up more room) and is a really wonderful piece of hardware.

I’ve had a go at one of these repeatedly for some time now, and I’m getting one. I had a Sub37 for two years, but there was just too much going on there for me. It was just one big sweet spot so all them features weren’t really needed to make it sound awesome.

One simply does not need all that many knobs to make great sound come out of a Moog Subsequent synth.

Anybody compared the sound of subsequent, sub 26 an grandmother? For bass sounds would be the minitaur the better option? I heared that turning up resonance don‘t drop bass and volume on the mini.
