I would love to have a bit of clarity on the following issues. Please take a look:
After I record a bad take on a single track, can I just erase that with clearing the entire sequence? So far I’ve only been able to manually clear the trigs.
After a sample is recorded and normalized can I boost the sample level any further in the sample editor? Basically I want more gain from the sample that I’m not able to re-record. I’m not interested in changing the level when I start to program sequences.
What’s a good work flow to organize patterns? I find I get lost often. I imagine with overbridge that would be just drag and drop but for now…
With using the fill button feature, is there a way to program drums to drop out and actually fill in within the sequence? For instance, I want the bass drum to drop out and hear a snare fill while pressing the fill button. Then once I release it, I want the pattern to go back to normal with the bass drum in there. I find I can add notes/trigs but not add and take away at the same time.
Is there a backup method to save your samples and patterns?
Thanks… for your time. Yes I own the machine but telling me to explore the manual is counterproductive.
Correction:
After I record a bad take on a single track, can I just erase that “without” clearing the entire sequence? So far I’ve only been able to manually clear the trigs.
The fill is conditional and fill triggers will only play when the fill button is held down. Generall you program them on the same pattern as the sequence you want them to fill
Currently there is sysex backup, added 1.05, but it back up everything but samples in its current implementation.
Manual was recently updated. It would be a good idea to download and browse through it. Not counterproductive as the questions you asked are easily answered by looking in the manual
Just on the train so I can’t answer all of these in depth, the manual and some experimentation should help though.
Regarding fills though you can simply use the fill condion on the trigs you want to play during the fill (snares in your example), and the not-fill condition on the things you don’t want to play while holding the button (kicks). It looks like the fill condition but with a line over it.
First, I’ll stick to the point and then address subsidiary issues.
I’m not sure if I’m conveying my digitakt issue properly or I’m just not being understood.
Within the same pattern… I want to drop the bass drum out to drop out and hear a snare fill while pressing the fill button. I seem to be able to only drop notes/trigs out or fill notes/trigs in with the fill feature but not both.
Is there away to achieve the desired result?
Lastly, I can’t speak for everyone but most would agree… A forum is about community and engaging with people. I have read the manual and have experience with the machine. I desire to deal with people concerned about helping one another. Thus telling me or anyone else to refer to the manual is counterproductive. If you don’t feel like engaging in conversation don’t. That’s your choice.
Let’s choose to keep it positive and not condescending, so future communication is nurtured.
How does that work in regard to there being a finite number of trigs let’s say (16) in this case.
B+++B+++B+++B+++ (Starting sequence) B+++B+++B+++S+SS (I want this to happen when I press the fill) B+++++++B+++B-SS or (I want this to happen when I press the fill) B+++B+++B+++B+SS (This is what I have only accomplished by pressing fill) I’ve only gotten notes to be added within the same sequence but never to drop them out and replace with other notes while pressing the fill button.)
A rant telling people how they aren’t helpful is a good way to not get help here. 90 percent of people on this forum will tell you to check the manual for basic questions. People are not being condescending…
As for the fill question. If you want the bass drum to drop out when fill is being pressed you would program the trigs to be -fill as those trig would only play when fill is not true (fill button not being pressed) and the snare you want to only play during the fill would have the conditional trig fill to only play when fill is pressed.
-fill is the option where the word fill has a line above it.
It’s ultimately easiest if you have the drum and snare on separate tracks because then you just have to worry about programming the proper fill condition.
How are you going to set up patterns track wise, will you be sticking to how each track is labels on the box? I was re reading your post and saw it stated you wanted to do this per pattern not track. So here would be the easy way
I just summed up the sequencing to some simplified notation so we could get the conversation started. I use separate tracks per pattern to produce the sequence.
I’ll try your method. I seem to remember doing “something like that” awhile ago but I didn’t get the desired result.
So to clarify – you can’t get a trig to NOT play when you press fill? That should be easy enough with the /fill condition, it is for me me. It’s hard to imagine why it wouldn’t be working.
I agree about the manual. This is a forum, people should be able to discuss how to do things without being constantly told to read the manual which seems to be the culture here. For one, the manual does have errors. Secondly, it’s not the easiest manual to read IMO especially if english isn’t your first language. I personally don’t mind helping someone figure things out if the manual isn’t doing it for them.
I agree. Of course you should make an effort to work it out yourself first, but things aren’t always phrased well and there’s a lot of jargon. (I’m not blaming the authors of the manual, it’s a complicated machine in reality.) And English is not the first language of many posters here… It’s a bit insulting to assume that someone hasn’t already tried just because it seems simple to you.
Additionally, Time was put into actually helping the op. I know I spent a decent amount of time trying to clearly convey the fill thing. So I’m not really getting the point of the “don’t tell us to read the manual” comments people. They are not contributing to any of the ops other questions.
