Need some moral support, just had to RMA my new Octatrack

So I just mailed away my 1 day old Octatrack back to the supplier (different country so will take a few days) due to a tiny manufacturing defect that is still significant enough not to accept it as is.

Machine is basically 99,99% perfect except that the “A” encoder knob is stuck in downward position and does not click like all the other encoders. I really only ever use the click functionality to remove parameter locks instantly (which is what I was doing when I found out it wasn’t working properly) but that’s still important enough to say goodbye to the Octatrack and wait another week for it’s replacement.

Should just put it out of my mind and have fun with my A4/Rytm but I was having such a good time learning the machine and wrapping my head around it. It’s empty spot will look sad for the next few days to come

I had encoder issues and elektron shipped me new ones for free and I know someone who soldered them on, no need to return. Oh well I am sure the a4 and rytm will keep you busy!

Sadly, a very small percentage of units will have a small issue that needs an RMA like this and it’s just a bit of bad luck to be the one person to receive that unit.

Hopefully this puts you back in the black for karma and that will come through in your tracks.

Hang in there bruh! The time will go faster than you think. Use the time to prepare killer kits and A4 patches for mangling with the OT once you get it back.

Stuck encoders is not something you want on an elektron box, since moving parameters fast require the pressing down of em. Often wish the behaviour could be reversed via a system setting though

…hang in there Merino :relaxed: the fun will come back!

I feel you. I’ve had about four buttons now fall off my OT. Three have fallen apart in this last round. The buttons are very flimsy. They seem robust but they are only holding on to the base of the circuit board by four little plastic connections. One I found out by flipping the board over and landed on my lap. I hope they are no longer using these types of buttons.

…mm…how old is your OT? mind to share picture of the button if you’ve got any of those that came out? (did you get them replaced? :hushed:)

OT Buttons Broken Album
I think I have one of the original. I bought it new when it first came out.

I already replaced the Function button earlier.
The Scene B button broke which is the recent fix. I flipped the board over a few days ago and the record button fell out. I didn’t even know it was broke. I then found the first step button is also loose.
I think you can see from the pics the button housing is held together by four corners and the front and back by little plastic tabs. They like to break loose and I’m afraid I have to keep replacing them with buttons that will break again. There is a ball bearing and a spring keeping the button up which also might help make the plastic points fall apart.

I’m replacing myself because I can solder and there is no longer a warranty. I ordered buttons from the US repair center.

Which part first ?

Ahem, sorry :loopy:

I just desolder the bottom of the button and solder the new button in. I’m not sure what else you are asking.

are there any pics from the rytm like this?

Just a joke, mate, just a joke… When one is replacing oneself, one as to start with a limb I guess. Or an ear, maybe.
:quirky:

Right man, I think I need a full body replacement. This one is getting old.:zonked:
