New OT user - sample record/playback gremlins

what were the setting that made the samples play randomly? i got myself an octatrack yesterday experiencing the same thing and it really annoys me.

First off, can you recreate this bug in anothr pattern or project? It might be a misconfiguration somewhere.

Never experienced such a bug myself.

Welcome - but best ask on the OT thread as they’re two different machine workflows and tbh, it’s too soon to be getting annoyed, there’s really no scope for learning the OT in a day, better recalibrate yourself on that front and add a bit more detail, there are numerous paths and routes to ending up with what seems like a random sample playing … too many to second guess the most likely

Explain what you were doing and simplify your test to minimise the variables and explain if you have other gear connected back in and so on

I’ve made a new project and the problem still occured, i do hear what i sampled. but my sample is followed up by several other samples, some of which i am accustomed too, some which i do not recognize(probably because there are samples from the previous owner)

Thank you, and sorry if i posted in the wrong thread. I did not intend to learn the OT in one day, im actually looking forward to see myself progress with the machine. What annoys me is that i could not find any support or way out to get rid of this problem.

I will try to explain what i’ve been doing,
First thing i did when i opened my octatrack was to follow cuckoos tutorial #2, called sampling. I plugged in my monitors and my novation mininova , recorded some samples to all of my 8 tracks. Now when i trigger the samples i do hear them first but they are quickly followed by several other samples, some which i’ve just recorded and others which i have not recorded at this specific session.

We need to get to the bottom of whether you are creating valid single samples and are hearing a succession of samples or if it’s a buffer full of snippets

It could be that you have a track sequencing sample slots or even an LFO targeting sample slots and this is why you hear more than you expected - it’s unlikely to be a bug, it’s more likely to be an as yet undiscovered feature

That’s why it is best to try to do the smallest element of a task you have in mind, so stick to one track, do one small example of what you want and report back on the settings and other things you have set up

Have a look at the edit buffer for the sample you’ve captured, does it look right, does it look th right length ? Track+Edit (iirc) gets you a peak at the sample buffer

Try triggering the sample slots manually, there’s a slice playback mode

Also try triggering the Track manually - this rules out sequencer issues - do this by pressing Track+Play (in both examples above, i mean small track button adjacent to display, you may need to disable a record mode if on)
