Octatrack and Headrush FRFR-108 full range speaker

Hello to all

I play ambient looped pieces with my guitar and some synth. I loop and layer with the OT. I also play more conventional guitar.

I’d like a convenient amplification system for jamming, small gigs. Ideally I can play ordinary guitar, start looping and layering with the OT when I want to, and then switch back when I want to (all this mixing can of course be dome in the OT).

The idea is I run Guitar --> Compressor --> Volume pedal --> Amp/Cab sim pedal --> OT in (with verb and delay in OT fx loop) --> 1 or 2 Headrush speakers. If I need more volume I can mic the Headrush.

Basically I’d like to have essentially the same sound I hear out of the OT though my studio monitors/headphones, but in a gig or rehearsal situation. I’d buy one Headrush first, then grab another for stereo when I have the cash.

I like the look of the headrush FRFR-108 because it is very portable, loud, and apparently sounds good (at least for guitar/amp sims which is what it is designed for).

Dioes anyone have any experience with this configuration, or otherwisae using a FRFR speaker with the OT?

Thanks!

Bumping because I believe the truth is out there.

Not much experience, but I have been looking into this for myself for a very similar set up, and decided that the Yamaha DXR speakers seemed like the best bang if you can stretch to them. I play bass as well, and the verdict seems to be that the DXR15 really kicks in the low end. They are pretty big if that’s an issue. They released V2’s on the DXR range last year, so you might get a good deal on the older versions if you can find any. The FRFR 108 mentioned above is a rebranded alto or similar, they are low end PA speakers. The DXR or even the cheaper DBR is a proper step up as far as I can see. They also come with 5 year or so warranty, I think you would be lucky if the alto/FRFR’s lasted that long.

Take this with a pinch of salt as I have been researching but in a similar position to you.

Thanks Dr Nate, appreciate the comments. Yes I’m aware the Headrush aren’t fancy, but budget is reasonably tight. Chords of Orion, a fantastic ambient guitarist with cool YouTube videos uses Headrush 108s for his rig, he does a lot of looping, which gives me some comfort.

Yeah I like his stuff, he has an interesting channel. I guess it depends whether you want to get deep basslines and things in there as well which is what I want. People seem pretty happy with the FRFR cabs. If you are on a budget, have a look at the alto ts range as I’m pretty sure that they are just rebadged as FRFR cabs so you can prob get one cheaper that way. ** I just checked and it’s the Alto TS range that is rebranded as FRFR, and they are cheaper. The Yamaha DXR seem to have gone up a lot in price since I looked at them.

Thanks. Yeah the Yamaha DXR are out if my budget, unfortunately.
