Octatrack newb here. Have had my mk1 for a few weeks. Turned it on tonight and went to connect to mac by USB to load some new samples and it didn’t appear as a drive.
Tried again and it connected but gave some errors - something to do with midi.
When I connect it it’s called 't read ban and it just contains a log file that talks about midi errors.
The audio pool folder seems to have disppeared.
Current project I had on it contained some midi tracks, but it wasn’t connected to midi when I turned it on. Don’t know if that was the issue?
Anyway, I ended up reformatting the flash card and it seems OK now.
Just wondering if anyone else has had issues like this? Or any idea what happened.
Obviously I’m a bit worried about it happening again, don’t want to be losing work once I start actually making stuff I don’t want to lose.
it could potentially be the card. would check brand and maybe for how long it has been in there or maybe something that has to do with the project/s on the card. is that a second hand OT? you could also have a look at Octaedit developed by @Rusty for projects handling and lot more and check on the forum too as there might probably be related/similar posts
@guga Thanks. It is second hand. Bloke I bought it off said eh thought there was a USB issue with it but then he said it was his computer, not the OT.
I might get a new card and see how that goes. I reckon the one in there is pretty old.
Octaedit seems to be on pause due to COVID. You can’t buy it atm
Then just get into the habit of making periodical backups on the OT (project save-to-new) and to the computer (drag & drop in USB drive mode). Especially “save-to-new” just take seconds and you always can remove old backups later on to get storage space back.
In most cases project corruption occurs when turning the OT off while it hasn’t finished writing to the card. So just watch the card activity led carefully before flipping the switch.
When uploading stuff via USB make sure that you unmount/eject the OT’s drive correctly from the computer, because otherwise this may also corrupt the file system.
Running a filesystem diagnosis (& repair if necessary) for the OT’s drive on a computer from time to time doesn’t hurt also …
It is just a Compact Flash card; so it can/will get corrupt data; get read/write (file i/o) errors etc. like any other piece of media is at risk of.
Bottom line, if you have anything of value on there, back it up
Life got complicated, hence limited ability to provide support, thus wouldn’t be fair to sell whilst so much was going on. Getting clear now, so will review later this week I’d say.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will definitely be backing up now Glad to know it is not uncommon - was worried my machine might be faulty in some way!
