Octatrack or not? Advice from the experienced

Hi there

First post, so thank you for reading! So I want to get away from my laptop and Abelton. I’ve a Minimoog Voyager, 8 Buchla 200e modules (with midi), Bass Bot TT-03 and TR8. I’ve used a monomachine in the past and quite liked the OS.

I do minimal techno, soundtrack stuff and ‘down the rabbit hole stuff’. I’m seriously looking at the Octatrack (and possibly the Digitone). Do you think the Octatrack will pair well? Is the Midi sequencing up to much?

Cheers

Getting an octatrack is like a never ending learning experience. If you are ready to learn a while new way of thinking, yes. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time with it. I like to learn, so I love mine.

You can do all kinds of things with the octatrack’s sequencer! But there are limitations questioned and answered to death on this forum, the only reason it’s not my personal all in one magical music box is that it doesn’t record polyphonic midi note information. Other than that you can create a lifetime or career’s worth of minimal techno on it, easy.

Buy DigitoNe first, after you’ll see if an OT or DigiTakt is better for you, if you really need another sequencer.

I began to use Elektron machines with OT, as said I like to learn complicated things too, I feel more clever after.
Time consumer, but original and surprising results.
For me OT midi sequencer is better because of it’s plockable arp, 3 lfos per track.
DT and DN have better prog change settings, notes overlaps, quicker Trig Conditions editing, easier FILL button combination…don’t have midi arp AFAIK…

Save yourself, don’t become one of us, it’s not too late for you yet… Run!
On the other hand, there’s something mysteriously fascinating about, oh nevermind, Run!
