Odd UR44 question

Maybe it’s just a general interface question.

But my UR44 has a main output and 4 individual outputs- is there any way to have it where outputs 1&2 and 3&4 are separate from the main outputs?

I’d like to be able to dynamically process streams from Ableton with the OT without a massive feedback storm.

You want to route audio from Ableton Live into the OT without those tracks appearing on outputs 1/2 or do you want to route audio into Live and then back into the OT without having those tracks on outs 1/2?

You could route any tracks from Live to the 3/4 outputs, without having it appear on outs 1/2, just select 3/4 in the audio to… menu in the channel you want to output at 3/4.
Then it’s not going to the master track in Live, only to 3/4.
Any signal you route into Live can be routed out in the same way.

How do you want to monitor the signals that go into the OT?

There are actually several methods, check the Live 10 manual chapter about Inputs and Outputs.

Thank you. I’ve got 3/4 taken care of- I just want to separate the 1/2 from the main outs

Thanks again for your time

Ok, it’s early morning (thx kitty cat), so maybe I need more coffee - but if you route a track to 3/4 outputs, it’s not going to the master (=usually 1/2), right?

Live also lets you create submixes with the “Sends Only” option in a tracks output tab (set all tracks to "Send only that should feed the OT) and using the Return track as buss (set the Return Tracks output to 3/4 and now you can use the send dial to send audio to the OT) and there’s the “External Audio” device for routing flexibility.

I don’t think it’s possible. My understanding is its a two output bus device where each bus is a stereo pair.

I think 1&2 are hardwired to main L/R, maybe you can configure it in the dspmix routing but I never saw an option for it.

You can definitely configure it to use 3&4 different from 1&2 though. I believe you need to turn off zero latency monitoring so the in/out routing are controlled by the daw.

I dont know why its called a UR44 when its got 6 ins but 4 outputs. Maybe cause it only has 4 mic pres.

The 4 output (2 stereo pair) in the name implies to me it has 2 stereo bus outputs, hence its not possible to decouple out 1&2 from main which would give you 3 independent stereo outputs.

Ok, now I get it^^Sorry.
The UR44 has Main Out, and Output 1/2 + 3/4, that’s what you mean!
IIRC it doesn’t give you six independ outputs.
The Main Out, Outputs 1/2 and Headphones 1 outputs the Mix 1 signal, Outputs 3/4 output the Mix 2 signal and Phones 2 Mix 1 or Mix 2.
Mix 1 and Mix 2 can be configured with the dspMix software.
Mix 1 also outputs the computer loopback.

I don’t have the UR44 anymore so I can’t check, but the dspMix routing doesn’t allow tp seperate Main Out from Out 1/2 so if your DAW doesn’t show six outputs, there probaply isn’t a way to access them seperately.

Edit; Check the signal flow chart on page 33 of the UR44 manual. Seems not to be possible.

Thank you @dizzy and @Schnork for confirming my suspicious and saving me the time for further trying to do the impossible. :slightly_smiling_face:
