Well, that’s basically what I meant.
They are excellent musicians and instrument players, virtuosos even! When I figured this watching them play live (and others like DJ Krush or Shadow), it smashed my old ignorant conception that “DJ are not musicians” 
And I know excellent instrument players that, in my own opinion, don’t know much about music, in my opinion. Or got lost and forgot what it was really.
