The Problem
I’m having a weird issue syncing my Octatrack MKII with a Boomstar 3003. I have MIDI out from the Octatrack going to MIDI in on the Boomstar. Everything is fine at first. I can trigger notes on the BS from the OT in chromatic mode. But if I start a sequence that triggers notes on the Boomstar, it plays those notes the first time, but as soon as I stop the sequence it seems to lose MIDI connection with the Boomstar. In order to regain connection I need to unplug the MIDI cable from the BS and plug it back in.
Settings
For the MIDI settings on the OT i have the Control settings all set to INT. The Sync settings are sending transport control and clock (no program changes).
Weird Side Note
Before I start a sequence and the keyboard on the OT can still trigger notes on the Boomstar, for some reason it triggers a note if I hit the “page” button on the OT.
I also have a Boomstar 5089 and this problem isn’t happening for that one.
The Ask
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (please, please, please )
Possibly a Note Off problem, like a stuck note that would stop other notes from playing.
Is note LEN set to INF?
I’d try a lower value.
(Another point to check is that OT sends Notes On Velocity 0 as Notes Off. It’s a standard, but not handled by all gear. As it works with chromatic, it shouldn’t the problem, but I mention it anyway).
It still syncs with clock. I figured since it doesn’t have an internal sequencer then it doesn’t need synced with transport control? For whatever reason it’s working with just clock. But if it acts funky when syncing other stuff I’ll definitely reach out to Studio Electronics. I called them earlier today with another issue and they were happy to chat about it on the phone.
I just got the 3003 in the mail today, hence the issues. It sounds great so far though.
There’s probably a setting in the boomstar unit you cam choose recieve transport yes/no. Anyway, glad you got it working. I dont know that synth personally, had a look online, very nice!
