Polyend Tracker Mini

“Nice filters” - so not the filter on the Polyend Tracker

So excited about this!
I’m 100% sure it will be the perfect product that will finally allow me to finish my tracks.
Not like the previous one I bought… And the one before that…

yep

I’m not sure what you mean by resampling then?

able to record the master outs or anything that comes out of the master outs including the performance mode, granulize etc… but polyend have stated it’s an hardware impossibility for the tracker… best it can do is the render function which won’t resample all of that, or send the audio out and back in physically again via cable

Well since day one of the tracker, and long before day one of the Play Polyend have known the burning desires of all of us who’ve purchased them… it will be interesting to see what of any of those desires find their way into the whatever this is…

Ha! I’ve met my twin, separated at birth, at last.

Starting to see some confirmation of a few details, so I’ve updated the OP post in this thread. Thankfully we don’t have long to wait to get the full picture on this!

I have the M8 and the Tracker and what I really miss on the M8 is the performance element and being able to play and record the instruments without an external MIDI controller. I hope this has not been removed from the tracker mini as that is what sets it apart from the M8 for me.

I liked the concept of the tracker, though it just sounded so flat and lifeless. The filters, envelopes, effects etc also very weak to my ears. One of the only purchases I had no regrets selling.

I hope this device features a completely new engine, I would be willing to try again.

The Delay, Reverb and Overdrive are quite reasonable, but the filters and envelope section could really do with some significant upgrades.

On of the feature of the m8 is you can use it with the screen you want…

The filters and envelopes are fine for sound shaping. I think they aren’t intuitive to use, and were confusing to me initially. Then combine the filters and envelopes with the LFOs and two FX slots per step and you can do a lot of sound shaping. I also love that you can render a selection, so you can do precise sound mangling, render, and then replace the sample in the instrument with all the same parameters in place, or new ones to change how an LFO is being targeted.

I think many don’t dive into the tracker side and miss out on all it can offer. The Tracker is also a slicing beast and has one of the best song modes. Of all my gear I’d never sell the Tracker. I’ve been tempted to buy another for a backup. A portable one has me super excited. I’m happy that companies have been building devices that can be handheld.

I doubt it

I personally wish @trash80 would offer a scaling UI setting. The screen is a good size on the m8, but the UI is tiny. Being able to use an external display is great, but it doesn’t help anything when on the go. I’d be happy to scroll right and left or up and down more to have the text larger. I get it’s probably incredibly difficult to implement UI scaling, so I deal and still love the m8.

True, but if I am in my studio I can use Renoise or my PT and if I am out and about a second screen isn’t really an option.

I agree with the prediction that this will be mostly a repackaged Tracker. The good news to that is that hopefully this means both sizes of Trackers will continue to get OS updates going forward, which is good news for Polyend users overall. Ideally both units will run the same OS, which I think is what they will do.

It does seem like they are already at the limits of their hardware platform in some ways, though. Hopefully they’ve got some real software witches and wizards working behind the scenes to optimize and clean stuff up, because although I agree the Tracker is not as crashy as it used to be, there are still numerous features on it that are rough around the edges. I disagree that it sounds bad, though, you just need to turn the antialiasing off :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The Benn Jordan teasers make sense, but if it’s really just a portable tracker I don’t get the point of the cgi dramatic teaser videos. You’re not making a new exciting product it’s just the same engine (probably more limited!) but in a portable package.

I’m surprised nobody else has thought their teaser vids looked inspired by Elektron. They have the market cornered when it comes to weird objects floating ominously to ambient sounds.

My hope is that they worked together with deflemask to create a fm synth and sample tracker that can somehow play and record chords elegently

not that I am getting it for certain but I think this looks both bad in design taste, touch and ergonomics.

Best D-Pad design of all time IMO (travel distance, level of tactile response): image

I said the BJ videos were fine, I meant the one on the PE channel seem a little over dramatic. Unless you mean he’s making all the videos on the PE channel, which I wasn’t aware of.
