Power supply

I want to buy an extra power supply, Does anyone know why the shop I’m looking at has a different type to the ones that come with elektron gear?
Is this an elektron product? it doesn’t look as good as the original ones

No - it’s not an Elektron product. Provided it does deliver the same voltage and amps, it will work. Whether it will introduce noise, is up to the quality of the product.

Why not just stick to the original power-supply from Elektron?

Kind regards

Thomas

for which Elektron(s)?

They don’t all have the same requirements.

Thanks for your reply… this is one of the only local stores in Australia …
I do want the proper extra one because I often move gear around but don’t want to unplug every time… I don’t want have to order from Sweden and pay shipping etc…

One suitable for ot,ar,A4,mk2 and digitakt and digitone and can be interchanged
the power supply I have that came with them can be used on any of them

Okay, that’s helpful.
I would look for a 12V DC power adapter with your country’s connector end.
The barrel size is 5.5 × 2.5 mm (it’s in the specs for each instrument’s manual)

I bought one like this on eBay, which is 5A, so plenty of power.
The barrel connector is a couple mm on the longer side of what Elektron provides, but it works great and it’s better that the barrel is too long rather than not long enough.
Try to get one with a built-in ferrite bead on the DC connector cable side of the adapter, to limit interference.

Ebay australia has some options

Great thanks for the advice! I’ll check out eBay…
I would prefer a proper elektron one but doesn’t look like they sell them here…

It’s also a good idea to check polarity as well as barrel size. You want to keep the voltage the same but amps can be over without any damage. It looks like Elektron gear is centre positive and this model is 12v 2000mA

There’s a PSU database here https://airtable.com/tbl2aDGtQspVdiQgJ/viwNn88xsWcFoZkD4?blocks=hide Please add to it if you can as it comes in useful for those of us with loads of gear that has been in storage for years. It’s also handy for not getting ripped off when buying replacement supplies from vendors that don’t list the specs of the supplies they sell.

Thank you for mentioning this, as it is very important!
Dunno why I didn’t mention it myself.

I’m going to contact the shop to try get a proper elektron one,
as I have a feeling they have just used a generic photo because it seems to have correct name same as on elektron website

I have a bunch of 12v 2A PSUs with center positive, but none of them specifically say DC on it. What’s the word on that type of PSU? I can’t drop $50 on a 2nd power supply just to make it easier for me to move my DN upstairs once in a while (the proper PSU is all wired up in the studio).

Post a picture of the PSU type data sticker with all the unit information. That should help solving it. :+1:

The symbol you are looking for is the solid line with a dashed line below it (sitting between the voltage and current output). This means these are DC output. If the plug is correct size you shouldn’t™ have any problems

(As a disclaimer though, the machine isn’t tested with any of these PSUs and there are more under the hood than just voltage and current specs. So if you notice some kind of weird behavior (unlikely but possible) change to your Elektron supplied PSU.)
