Quiet Inputs

Hey, Octatrack newbie here. I’m taking my baby steps sampling with it.

I have hooked up a microphone to input C. I have put the gain on the mixer inputs C D to +63 (Max) and set the sample to record mono (C Only). However the resulting sample recording is unusably quiet. Have you guys got any other suggestions or is the microphone going to need some pre-amp-age?

You need a preamp. The OT is expecting line level on its inputs, and you’re feeding it a very weak microphone signal

Shame, I was hoping this could be done internally.

Is there a normal setup for this? I suppose I could route my mixer in to the OT. It seems a bit overkill though.

while I don’t use a mic with my OT, I’d probably just pick up an ART Tube MP or something similar if I was going to.

Not to worry. I have lots of other stuff to sample. I doubt anyone wants to hear my voice that much anyway :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: .

Thanks for your help.
