I have just got myself a Rytm… love it… I’m curious - how does the delay and reverb compare with the A4 and OT? I’m already thinking about getting an OT at some point in the future…
I’ve heard that the dark reverb mode is supposed to be good…

dark reverb is good but the other reverbs on the OT not so much and it has a very strong character which i love but easy to get tired of. i think over all the a4 reverb is better but i wouldnt get either one as an effects unit.
overall OT will be more versatile. you can’t go wrong with it.
I agree that the A4’s verb is better. BUT, the OT is a much more useful FX box. It has a lot more FX and, most importantly, can do some serious tricks sequencing all of those FX… then throw in a crossfader and you’ve really got something.
To be honest, I still have yet to really use the OT as a sampler. At this point it’s just a sequenced-FX box for the other 3 Elektrons.
One day, when I have the time I want to spend on that thing, I’ll use it as a sampler.
I can only disagree.
OT’s effects are some of the worst effects Ive ever used. I only end up using them because they are there.
Filter is ok (but not really), Dark reverb is much better than the rest. AR’s delay and reverb sound much better and are definitely usable.
I wish they hired a talented FX programmer. Tons of 90’s budget units had better FX, and very likely had less CPU power.
In my dreams, Elektron and Strymon would fuse. An OT with Strymon’s FX would be amazing.
Disagreeing with me?
I didn’t say anything about the FX being good, just more useful than the A4 in terms of quantity and the A4 definitely winning in quality.
None of them are worth a crap compared to Eventide or Strymon or other, but that wasn’t the point.
Lol, I quoted myself. Meant to quote Somatech.
I only have direct experience of the Rytm - I think the fx are useable, but not as good as my ITB stuff (Satin, Valhalla).
I would be getting an OT for the midi sequencing and sampling, but better fx than the Rytm would be a bonus.
I think the OT has better effects than the MD and MM however. I don’t have an AR yet but the effects on the A4 are excellent.
Also with the OT’s IO/routing capabilities it’s not too hard to drop an Eventide pedal into the chain, and sequence/plock that with the OT’s MIDI channels.
just imagine that…it would be unreal. don’t the Strymon boxes use some 'top’o’the line Sharc Dsp chips for their Fx tho?
i am not a programmer but do you reckon there is any scope for updating the fx in the the A4/AR or is it a pipe dream. will the FX be so important once overbridge comes along?
I got no idea about the reality, but I refuse to believe that an expensive 2010 device has less CPU power than, say, an Ensoniq ASR-10 from 1992, which has great FX compared to the OT,( derived from a DP/4).
Overbridge is no answer. If you start applying computer FX to the OT, you could just as well use Ableton’s sampler anyway. It kills the workflow, which is the whole point of Elektron gear.
I agree, workflow is the issue for me…I started buying all this elektron gear because I wanted to do things otb…as it is I now I’m making due with the elektron effects but having to save for some nice external effects gear…ie strymon or eventide
Would be much better if the OT for example had some really nice delay and verb options.
