Rytm is messing up Sirin on pattern start

Hi guys,

Not sure if anyone with a Moog Sirin or Minitaur might’ve experienced this… I’ve just got a Sirin and have noticed when I start my Analog Rytm pattern, the sound in the Sirin changes as such that I can’t hear anything! If I then go into the Sirin editor and select an init patch, I’m fine, but as soon as I hit stop on the ARmkII, I once again have the no sound coming from Sirin. Using AR to sequence the Sirin. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

maybe it’s sending program changes to the sirin? you can turn it off in the rytm sync menu

But that should only happen when a pattern is changed on the Rytm, not when play is pressed and when stop is pressed, shouldn’t it?

Probably it is getting tripped up by midi transport, data it doesn’t need. I believe Nord Drum had this issue as well.

You should be able to disable midi sync output from Rytm’s midi menu,

Rather than disable sync, you can probably achieve the same effect by changing the MIDI channel AR sends sync on, or the MIDI channel Sirin receives on. (You might have another Elektron box and want to send it pattern/programme changes).

Also, I think sending a programme change on STOP might make sense. I’ve noticed on my OT that if I set up a pattern chain, but stop the sequencer during the first pattern, it changes to the second one on STOP. You’d want the PGM CHG messages sent then so any other boxes stayed in pattern sync.

i had this with prophet 6, turn off pad and mute ext in the rytm menu

Oh cool thank you. Anyone know how to do that? I can confirm it is only resetting on double-stop on Rytm.

I thought it was happening when you press start and when you press stop. Double stop sends all notes off message…

Project menu -> Midi Sync -> Port Config

Yeah when I press start after double stop it’s not playing anything. It’s receiving midi notes but no sound.

Thanks for the pointer on menu location. It hasn’t made a difference…

Possible that it’s interpreting “all notes off” by shutting down the master volume or the VCA to zero? Does wiggling the volume knob/VCA level bring the sound back?

I did a test with my AR MkII and my Sirin and everything is fine.

Hmm… unfortunately not! I wonder which value it is though?

I have a really bad hit rate with my troubleshooting suggestions recently… sorry… hope you get it sorted.

Are you on a Choke Track?

Yep, I am but I don’t have anything programmed on the other track. So I’m on track 4, with no trigs on track 3. Is there still something I need to know about that?

Thanks so much for your help everyone. I’ve solved it now based on your comments. Fix was around the Program Channel send. When I disabled it, it was fixed. However, I tried re-enabling and changing the channel off Auto and set it to 16. This made it fine. I think perhaps auto was going to ch1 which was the Sirin’s notes. Thanks again guys, I appreciate all your concern and help. Love this forum!
