RYTM; What Lurks?

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]Recently, there has been a lot of negativity around the forum about the current state of the RYTM OS and how it is affected by the development of Overbridge, amongst other issues, such as bugs. Whilst I am inclined to agree with many of those posts, I can’t help but feel positive about the overall future of the RYTM OS, and here’s why…

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]Have you noticed that when powering on the RYTM, all the parameter page LED’s light up yellow? I’d guess that there are also green LED’s mixing with the red ones to create the yellow. To me this says that there is potential for at least 2 more pages of parameters…2 more pages!!? I can’t imagine they’d add extra LED’s just to have them light up yellow at start up! :astonished:

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]Also, have you noticed that on some of the demo patterns with unused LFO’s, the LFO destinations say “MUL”, what could that be? Multi? Multiple LFO destinations…could that be a forthcoming feature? When pressing and holding the parameter page buttons to see the pages numerical overviews, it says ERR (error?) above the LFO setting, which would also make sense as the feature is not implemented yet (plus, how would it display multiple values?)

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]Now of course, all of this is pure speculation, but one thing IS for certain…big things are happening back at Elektron HQ! And when they reach us, I’m sure we’ll all be pleasantly surprised.

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]Use the machine, pay attention, you might just get some clues as to what may be in the pipeline…In fact we all might, if you come back here and post what you observed

there are always 2 types of people: The ones that dream, like you - they are the optimistic people that even stay true to a boat thats already sinking instead of logically leaving it asap - because there could be the tiny chance that someone may get that fixed in time and everythings good :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And then there are the people that take the hard facts to the table and interpret the silence around the Rytms OS as a bad sign. They are not necessarily pessimistic, they are realistic. They see what they’ve paid for they see what was promised to them and they see that they dont get it. So they rather feel Glass-half empty instead of glass half-full. For a good reason.

It may be that Elektron might get into the Rytm again when they are done with Overbridge, somewhere in 2017 :joy: But i guess its more likely that they rather build a new machine after that - as they wanna make money and its easier for them to do so by making a new machine instead of caring for one they already got the money for.

I would cancel all speculations and take the Rytm the way it is. If you can be happy with it as it is right now you will surely have a good time with it that might get even better when its OB Plugin is finally there. If you are not happy however, dont expect to be cared of anymore and sell that thing! Elektron seems to have bigger plans today. Their reputation for listening to its users slowly seems to fade away …

Sorry i couldnt resist… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

getting all philosophical on here…

When I bought the Rytm I was very happy.
And I’m still happy today. Here’s how I look at it:

Is it a cool: YES

Does it Sound good to me: YES (and I own and have owned many many synths and boxes)…

Does it simplify my workflow building grooves: HELL YES

Am I bothered with the only basic sampling functions: NO…it’s not a sampler…and quite honestly - there’s a thing called software…much more flexible for that…sorry.

Do samples sound good in it: BIG YES! Everything I run through it sounds impressive and huge. Listening to the imaging, dynamics and depth makes me think the sound comes out of a big console!

Can it use more features: OF COURSE But so does my ATARI2600

I didn’t buy it based on what the future holds. I wanted it right there and then for the same reasons I want it now. It works, sounds great, and makes my workflow twice as fast.

Does it worth the asking price: YES (for me)

fuck! … at first I was like … What would the sunglasses guy say to him "stfu dude, there is laser beam shooting octa AI jellyfish trying to kill our crew, shut up with your “we need more reality in virtual reality crap” …
BUT , this made sort of really sense to me what he said! … darn! … A day when I am not philosophying is a good day for me … now I am trapped in my head again …
anyways…thanks for posting this… I just evolved a tiny bit in my thinking!

I just noticed in Rytm manual the FX LFO is listed as LFO1 (page one). No other pages are listed this way.

Nice spot Adam! And thanks for the somewhat more positive response :+1:

I realised after my last post that “MUL” under LFO destination could actually refer to Multiplier, which is also on the LFO page…

The famous ringmod kick might be worth mentioning as it’s in the manual so might be coming.

But man this board is full of moany fuckers lol. Make some music peeps!
