Sampling from CDs

Hello ppl i usually rip the cd track in wav and chop only the part i want in audacity after transfer to sd octatrack.
First of all is it correct? And 2nd all the chopped samples are stereo, I suppose some of them should keep stereo and other samples better convert them mono?
Thank you

That depends if you bought the CD.
Compact Flash (CF) card, not SD.
I’d rip and edit in a DAW too.

Mono samples are converted to stereo in Ram so that’s up to you if you prefer mono.
Edit : actually it is converting to stereo in recording buffers, but not in Ram, it saves
memory…

Edit 2 : you can use mono samples !

indeed all my records are original, but i m asking in terms of sound because i have the machinedrum that is not handling stereo and now i m bit confused because for example: should i keep my old mono bass / drums samples or load them directly stereo in octatrack without any conversion as i did in machinedrum?

I mean is there any benefit or just throw them to octatrack as they are?

Mono saves Ram memory, no clics for zero crossing.
I prefer stereo in general.
To taste.

Have you ever thought about just recording straight to the octatrack? It might be a little harder to get the bits you want but you never know what’s gonna happen to the sample anyway! Good luck anyway
