instead of internet research, i would suggest starting from recreating rhythms that intrigue you.
visual aid will give clues onto why music makes you feel a certain way.

Or do both! Recreating and deconstructing rhythms and melodies and songs that I like was helpful, but pairing that with a little bit of study (and immediately trying out things I learn) has been the most helpful thing for me.
