hmm - so reading all of this it might be best to just default to TS Cables (except maybe for my monitors) then make TRS to eliminate any noise I might be experiencing

There is no default unfortunately. Its based on the gear in question. Best practice is probably to make urself a spreadsheet of the gear you have after checking their respective manuals.
This issue is I can’t leave everything setup, and don’t have a dedicated port for everything, so I need t be swapping gear in and out of the same channels. Most of it is elektron stuff, so that’s ok, but the odd bit and bob isn’t.
I’m actually thinking I might just make TRS extender cables coming from the back to the front of the unit, and then plug in TR/TRS as applicable.
