I’m spec’ing out a small modular rig based around a MN Morphagene. I’ve spied the Tip Top Happy Ending kit to mount it for Day One.
I’ve got a couple of VCAs and a function/LFO module on the shopping list BUT I’m a bit stumped for ‘Day One’ around audio I/O.
Once I get a PSU and case, can I use the Morphagene on its own - audio-wise - or do I need an additional audio I/O to translate signal into it and out of it? I heard that modular audio runs hotter than line level…?
If this is a thing, new toys can come quicker. If not…more saving!
Depends what you are interfacing with.
If the euro modules or external gear have attenuators it should be fine to run from euro direct, with attenuation on the euro side or external side
I started out with the Morphagene as well and I had it running without mixer and plugged the output of the morphagene directly into the Deluge. you can slowly rise up the volume from where you plug it in to be sure. The morphagene handles normal levels as incoming signal, so its a great module to start.
Good to know; thank you. I’m looking to run it into a mixer before it hits the Octatrack for sampling anyway… It’s odd that this isn’t a question I’ve found an easy answer to on forums and the like!
Awesome. This is even better. Now to find an appropriate case for the thing… Not sure I like the Happy Ending kit so much (Although for space / cost it’s pretty good).
Awesome! I had the same question! I plan to get a case with some Mutable Instruments Moduls (Elements, plate, Tides). I try to create some kind of special synth and fx case and wasn’t sure if I really need a audio interface modul for the Eurorack.
I got 2 HEK’s when I started then a Synthrotek deluxe. The tip tops are great but you need to get a stronger wall wort to get the full power from them. You can power 2 84hp rows with one just about, it will get hot though! If you get the HEK you can just use the rails and make some sides out of wood until you inevitably expand. The synthrotek psu isn’t good, I have had strange behaviour from modules when using it, don’t get one.
