Sync TR-8S with Syntakt clock through midi does not hold

I tried both Syntakt midi out -> TR-8S midi in
TR-8S midi out -> Syntakt Midi in
in both scenarios the sync is not maintained after 20 seconds or so, it’s off in 1 of the devices.

I tried Syntakt Midi out -> Minifreak Midi in => sync is perfect
Minifreak Midi out -> TR-8S Midi in => Sync is perfect.

Any idea why TR-8S and Syntakt sync is not working?

TR8S firmware up to date? Try a different MIDI cable?

Define ‘off’

yeah latest firmware. the same cable isworking with the minifreak.
by off, I mean that the beat was first in sync on the 2 machines, after 20 seconds or so it’s no longer synced, there is a micro shift in 1 of them but it’s noticeable to the ear

You checked the midi clock preferences on both machines? I’ve the tr8s and a Digitone and MPC One and all sync perfect

Cant think what would cause this.
Ive had a TR8-S for years, totally rock solid with any gear. I have it synched up with my Octatrack, DN and other analogue gear no issues at all

Do you have pattern change via Midi enabled on the TR-8S? On the latest TR-8S firmware that won’t work properly and lead to loss of sync after one pattern. Otherwise I can’t see why it shouldn’t work. Runs absolutely smoothly here.

When you sync your ST with the TR8S, can you try to change the tempo of the master to see how the slave behave ?

Doing that both device should change there tempo at the same time. This would allow to remove one of the two parameter of the midi sync.

IIRC midi sync is done by ticking 6 midi message per step. I’d like by doing this to confirm the slave device loose one ´midi tick’.

I created 2 new tracks on both devices and today sync is working fine, changing on one device is changing on the other and vice versa.
thanks for all suggestions on this.
