Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

For me there is a lot on the Deluge that could be optimised/improved, and a lot that is really good, I don’t use mine very often because of the really unusable manual and forgetting lots if the “hold this while pressing this” shortcuts which are easily forgotten - and from what I can tell many other users seem to suffer from this too.

But, if you use it on a daily basis I suspect most of the functions become second nature, eventually. The lack of a screen and not enough buttons for functions affect the UI, and of course the many added features mean even more stuff to remember.

I got the mxpand overlay for mine which has a lot of the shortcuts for functions printed on it, but I have not had much time with it since fitting it.

I debate selling mine quite often, but before doing so I really need to get some quality time with it, as I have definitely seen glimpses of brilliance for certain things it can do.

I think Synthstrom made a few mistakes early on both in the design phase and the way the beta works, but these are moot points now, it is what it is. Still, considering they are a very young and small company and they managed to bring to market such an accomplished machine is to be commended, and their commitment to updates and their users is something rarely seen.

I know that they regularly have events all over the place where you can go along and play with one, maybe go to one of these to get a better feel for the Deluge?

This perfectly sums up my feelings about the deluge. That said, I’ve owned it once and sold it, and just bought another one, waiting for it to arrive. Thinking it was worth another shot, and maybe I’ll remember more this time around lol. Probably not though :-/

Isn’t this the synth dawg’ s work ? Anyway that’s a HUGE improvement over the previous manual.

Yes @iceritchie on here I believe, great work :+1:

I noticed a couple of minor inconsistencies and the clickable index does not always seem to work correctly on ipad, but overall it is much nicer and a huge improvement over the previous manual.

@iceritchie did a fantastic job. This DeLuge Producers Guide has become a real masterpiece. This was so needed.

btw… at https://synthstrom.com/product/deluge-manual/ you can also buy a printed copy of the DeLuge Producers Guide.

Let me know darenager the things spotted and ill update. Which book are you referring to btw? I know there were content hyperlink errors that i thought i had corrected in the last update. I have to look at the updates for the OS over the next few weeks and holiday so i can take into account. Thanks for the support much appreciated.

Thanks Jazzmess, always try to make the Synthdawg guides a bit different to the manual. Of course a lot of content will overlap but i aim to go from teh users perceptive and try to take a deeper dive while at the same time making them notebooks for personal notes. Some explanations of this and also the Deluge story on our blog www.synthdwag.com

Ian got in touch so I told him already, but basically:
on page 6 the diagram for the line in jack shows a mono plug not a stereo one, also the text above does not indicate that it is stereo, although it does mention this on page 8 and also on page 164.
The index links only seem to work when you click on or near the number, not on the text as you’d expect.

As I said only minor things, and again thanks and congratulations on making it :+1:

Ahh, yes in fact as we speak im just doing the update. I had TR as the indicated plug and ive now changed it to TRS and added Stereo (configurable) for clarity. We took the content index out so maybe there is a residual element there. The question really is should we hyperlink the content page or not. The copy going out to print Monday should include these changes but Ian will handle those logistics

Ok cool. Personally I think the hyperlinks are handy both in the contents and the index, and clicking on the actual text is something I guess most people are used to, especially when in use and needing to reference some function or shortcut quickly.

Hi there,
How do you guys set up midi with an external controller ?
As there is no « send midi to current track », It’s really a pain (first world problems here).
How midi learning with an external controller is dealt with ? Do we have 1 learning, say for a kit track, and then we have to change the midi channel on the controller for another kit track ? Last time I wanted to do this, pressing learn showed that the pad were already midi learnt, so I had to unlearn all the pads, and relearn it…
How do you set yours ?
Cheers !

Oooh. You’re making it shine not many have managed before

Wow, impressive. Good work. If you ever happen to get a Hydrasynth, or Modal Argon8, I’d love to hear what yo do with them

Incredible stuff there - really enjoyed it. Out of interest, how much sample use vs internal synth engine? I’m hearing more and more Deluge tracks using the synth engine to increasingly great effect.

Thanks a lot and sorry to disappoint, but it’s 100% samples. The synth/sound engine is great though which is what I use except I use it with samples as oscillators instead of synth waves.
