Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

Hah. The irony.

So I use the Blackbox to record multi samples. Threw them into the Dellie. Sounds great. Then I was like, “I wonder how they sound in da Blackbox, tho?”

So, yeah. Deluge loses to Blackbox again

And now it’s in real danger cause with the latest sequencing updates to the Blackbox, it’s covering much of the ground I appreciate and have a few tricks of its own not even the Deluge can match.

Tell us more.

Well, the Deluge beats the Blackbox times 100 when it comes to features and interface for sequencing. But the Blackbox structures its sequences, clips and songs in a way that appeals to me a lot more.

Has the BB improve a lot since V1.0? I remember watching Loopop’s in depth review and was salivating until it got to the very lacking modulation stuff (lack of modulation targets, lack of modulators etc.)

I wanted to love it but I could not.

It is in many ways a different instrument compared to the 1.0 version.

But not in terms of modulation. I use what’s there and what bothers me the most is how well it responds to it. Imagine if 1010 took modulation to town with this thing. Or at least for a stroll in the park.

All the same, it’s my weapon of choice for homebrew and commercial stuff.

I keep going on this loop, no thanks to you @circuitghost :

Deluge is awesome … would love better mixing >> maybe I’ll get a Blackbox to pair … hmm there’s no modulation >> maybe I’ll also get a DT/OT for LFOs … oh no, that’s three samplers/sequencers damnit! >> Deluge is awesome (and all I need)

… but man I would love better mixing though

For real though, appreciate your thoughts  I think I’m particularly susceptible to a new purchase right now because my Deluge is out for warranty replacement and I miss it/making tunes in electronic world

Hang in there, friend. Dellie’s back in no time, I’m sure.

I so much love the nuances going on in a well designed poly, I can’t ever unhear some of the tones coming out of my Prophet 12. So
if it’s any consolation, Blackbox won’t work as a one stop multi sample tool for me either.

But it remains the box where all my material ends up, eventually.

The Deluge is really good at being quite annoying and then you spend a little time with it and it has a real knack of being able to put a smile on your face.

Spent some time absorbing BB videos. There is SOOOO much about it that is spot on. For a start off the actual sampling experience is much more mature than the Deluge (being able to set the input level, threshold recording, quantized recording etc.). And the individual outputs are obviously very welcome and useful. And small things like having Start and Length sample parameters rather than Start and End (yes Deluge, looking right at you!) which allows the start point to be modulated properly. Which leads onto the Granular mode which is really, really good!

Unfortunately the BB lacks a lot of modulation targets and sources which is where the Deluge kills it for me. Same as the sequencing, the BB is very unsophisticated when lined up against the Deluge.

it’s like a conspiracy to force us to buy both :frowning:

Thanks for the thoughts @circuitghost & @neilbaldwin

real knack of being able to put a smile on your face.

100%. Countless hours spent in other synth/samplers just to come out if it not knowing if I enjoyed it at all. Not the same with the Dellie for me, it’s almost always a great time and that’s the reason I’m into this stuff in the first place.

If anything I’ll pick up a BB one day to sit next to the Deluge and see how that workflow is. Right now, being Deluge-less has left me playing lots more guitar which is fun. Also asking my partner to jam with me more because I miss the rhythm section that having a groove box provides.

Hi! Grabbing the Deluge again after a looooong time. I am preparing a long live set (over an hour) with the dellie and a small modular system so i dont think the arranger would be an option… to be clear … i cant loop sections in the arranger right?

Sorry couldnt find the answer anywhere, thats why i am asking.

I don’t think it’s an option, although this user seems to have a found a workaround to it…

I don’t have my Deluge in front of me or else I would try to test it out for you

Thanks, but I think that would not be an option for me. To much back and forth, I would get lost without a doubt  I will stick to clip/sections and patterns for now. Would be awesome to have something like Ableton clip launching.

Could anyone point me to the deluge Discord server? Thanks

Forum search is your friend

Yeah I found that but the link is dead, thats why I am asking…

Something I thought you could do but can’t remember how (and also am not in front of my Deluge!) is drop out of the Arranger into Pattern mode and have playback loop in the Pattern then drop back out. I could be making that up. And it probably won’t help. Even if you could do it.

Synthstrom gave us that feature to punish us.

For a live set why not use individual songs? You can with a bit of pre preparation organise and name them so that you can load in the order of your set, Deluge loads songs without a hitch in my tests, might be worth a try?
