Take 5, pro6 or OB6 in addition to DT DN setup

Soundwise, which poly adds nice to DT and DN setup. Which one cut’s easiest thru the mix and fills the blanks? Any advice from owners?

you absolutely cannot go wrong with any of them, that’s the truth. personal taste and budget are the only factors here imho

OB6 - fills every single blank and some bits that weren’t blank either. Can sound very angerey and huge, or can sound really soft and sweet, but never very ‘clean’.
P6 - great synth, sounds awesome, but fairly traditional (not necessarily in a bad way). Much cleaner sounding than OB6.
T5 - no experience but looks/sounds cool from videos and feels like a P6 with a bit more programmability and one less voice.

The OB6 will fill the most space, the other two will more likely ‘sit’ next to the DT/DN more easily.
Saying that, I absolutely love my OB6.

Edit: as above, you absolutely can’t go wrong with any though.

I’d agree. can’t go wrong with any of them; just depends upon taste and budget. personally I’d go for Rev2 though. the 16 voice one so you have more options for using both layers separately.

My frank answers are any synth will fill in the blanks frequency wise (I’m kind of guessing what you mean by fill in the blanks). Any synth will cut through the mix depending what the other instruments are doing.

The Rev2’s more flexible and “interesting” - all those sequencer options, the layers and so on, open it up to create a huge range of sounds. It sounds lovely and does so much.

A handful of things repeatedly prompt me to think about selling it on to fund a P6 or an OB-6:

  • the high pass filter is a digital effect, so if you want to use it (and I use it all the time) you can’t have a “proper” effect. Both the p6 and ob-6 have analog HPF inline with the LPF (or can band-pass)
  • i don’t really use the sequencers
  • I hate the screen: my eyesight sucks
  • it doesn’t play well with the OT when you try to use it as a master keyboard and a bi-timbral synth. It might not do those two roles with any sequencer that well, but I’m only using an OT for now. Everything’s workable, but nothing’s easy or makes sense.
  • only one effect at a time: the p6 and ob-6 have three if you count the separate distortion as an effect. (OK So the rev2 has two effects, but they’re fixed to one per layer, so you can’t run sound->distortion->chorus->delay)

I think i’d use those tools on the p6 and ob-6 more. If I could decide which one I preferred, I might sell my Rev2. In many other ways, the Rev2 is better than either of them. It certainly offers much more modulation options, including extensive modulation of the modulation.

DT and DN already have the tools (Filters, EQs) to make space in the Mix so any Synth will do.

For bang for your buck, great sound, flexibility, and portability, the Take 5. For beautiful, amazing, core sounding goodness, the OB-6. They all sound fantastic, so pick the one sounds best to you.

if you can’t find a store to demo them… put all three on a credit card, then do a synth shoot-out and return the two that you like less before the 30 day return window is over.

or maybe that’s too much risk that you’ll like more than just one?

I own the OB6 and the synth is just a joy to use. The filter is what sets it apart from the other sequential synths. You won’t be able to get the filter to scream like you probably could on the P6 because it’ll drop off before you get into any super high frequency. I actually like that feature because I can go crazy on a filter sweep without worry of blowing out my eardrum. :joy:

+1 on the OB-6. Best sounding synth I’ve ever owned, and really quite versatile (you can get into Prophet-y territory but also do so much more).

I just recently bought a Matriarch and paired it with the OB-6. What a combo I’ve never had this much sonic fire power in all my life. They compliment each other perfectly The OB-6 very majestic and the Matriarch moody and celestial.
