Tasteless, Colorless, Odorless, Somewhat Minimal Electronic Music

So, we have the “Bangin’ Techno” thread, but honestly, I prefer something more hypnotic, minimal, and spacey. Soooooooooooooooooooooooo…

Honestly, some of it still bangs a bit  Also, a little Tech-House and Dub-Tech wouldn’t go amiss here.

There is a common phrase, usually when someone’s being sort of pompous, about a given subject being “The thinking man’s xxxxxxxxx”.

I adapted it to fit the more chill, minimal, and in my opinion more thoughtful side of Techno, as opposed to fast, loud, distorted. (which also definitely has its place) I’m thinking more along the lines of spacing out with some headphones on here.

One of my favorite uses was actually a double-joke. It was on the show SeaLab 2021.

The captain was at a soda machine, and all the sodas had plays on jazz musicians. He said “Ah!!! Mango Reinhardt!! The thinking man’s pop!!”

Which is a play on the jazz musician Django Rheinhardt, who could be said to be a thinking man’s jazz.

Kinda goes with chin-scratching a bit I suppose. Ahh, I see what they did there, nice… In a smug, insider sort of way.

I emphasized the Wo, in woman, to be inclusive, since the phrase doesn’t usually go “Thinking woman’s xxxxxx” classically speaking…

I just recently discovered Indira, which is why I’m posting so much.

So much wrong with the confusing thread premise.

Is the Techno good, or not good? There is nothing about techno which ONLY SOME people will perceive as calmer/softer/less banging/or whatever exactly is meant which makes it ‘smarter’.

Techno can be ‘hard’ and more ‘intelligent’ than something more low key. Take all those airquoted terms with a pinch of salt as they are all pretty pointless… like I say - techno is techno.

This does NOT require that much thought (funny enough.)

There is a thread called “Lookin’ for Bangin’ Techno”.

I created this one, for “Less Bangin’ Techno”.

It’s not difficult, and it doesn’t require any deeper examination than posting what you feel is some cool, mellower, more minimal, thought provoking techno. Simple as that.

Let’s save the thinking for the music, not the thread title.

I think just the notion of ‘banging’ or ‘hard’ techno is quite strange anyway. It’s all in the individual’s perception. If you choose to perceive a rhythmic groove as really hard then fair enough, but it will just be groovy / flowy / hypnotic etc to someone else…

It’s kind of why it’s pretty much the best music, but it’s best when there is no barriers

Any time! I can see it being a little bit ambiguous. It’s meant to be somewhat toungue in cheek.

Once again, you are thinking too much about the label. Not the music. And anyone truly into a range of techno styles, is going to know instantly what fits in either thread.

Start another thread if you think something doesn’t belong here or there, by all means. I’ll come into it, and be happy to post what I perceive as going with the theme. And contribute where I can.

There are also Acid threads on here, where everyone happily posts Acid tracks, wether house, techno, or other.

It really doesn’t matter. Overclassification is not necessary.

Nice! I hadn’t seen this before. I like it already (only a few mins in).

Sorry… I realise I might be coming across as in attack mode, and don’t want to, so I apologise if I offended.

I still stand by some of it, as I don’t generally find it that helpful splitting things into ‘hard’ and ‘soft’, although I accept you can do some general categorising.

I’ll try and get into the spirit, and see what people’s perception is lol

Definitely not offended. However, I will defend the theme of the thread.

Perception doesn’t come into this really. (at least heavily) Of course there will be a variety of points of view, and some things will overlap a little bit.

Unless you’re someone that absolutely has to have a separate label, category, drawer, P-Touch label, safety pins to keep like socks together, etc. then it really doesn’t matter here though.

Yeah, english is not my main language so…

Anyway, maybe this is hypnotic and spacey… if not minimal:
