Tasteless, Colorless, Odorless, Somewhat Minimal Electronic Music

That top one - that’s the ‘thinking’ stuff? That basically ends up being Psy-trance

Once again, you putting way too much thought into trying to classify things.

Indira’s mixes largely do that. They start with minimal techno, and end with something more psy maybe even goa sometimes. That’s just what she does. That doesn’t in any way negate the minimal techno that half the set is based on.

Should I have just not posted that because there’s a bit of psy in it?

This thread is not some excercise in labeling genres, or showing off how much one knows about the minutae of sub genres. It’s a place to put a bunch of good music that can fit loosely under the theme of the title.

I can’t tell what you’re trying to do. Pick apart the submissions to this thread, exhibit genre knowlege, or some other agenda? There’s absolutely no agenda here other than posting some good mellower, techy type music.

Speaking of Psy, the label Techgnosis has some incredbile minimal techno with psy qualities in their catalog. Definitely worth checking out IMO.

Nice thread!

The above is not only just the perfect blend of chilled out yet driving, it is also the first video example I saw of a guy doing live hardware techno and performing it like a DJ. It was a huge breakthrough for me. The second I realized what he was doing I knew my way forward.

I see you posted Vinny Vosne in the op @J3RK! I love that guy’s stuff. I first ran into him while researching the Tempest. This is the one I keep returning to.

Love that first one, and am only a couple of minutes in. Nice!

Agree on Vinny! The Tempest and recording to ReVox caught my attention too, not to mention the whole gear setup. His setup is the perfect example of what I was talking about in the “other” thread going on right now about how someone can own tons of fancy gear, and be an absolute master with it.

This label Techgnosis has AMAZING stuff on it. As I mentioned above, it blends techno, house, and psy in a way that I don’t hear often in other places. Really good stuff.

Tiger Head is typically a bit more on the “bangin’” side, but these sets have a pretty good balance of more hypnotic minimal and bangin’. She also has another set that I haven’t located yet that is more on the minimal side. Either way she’s pretty amazing.

I was just a bit surprised that you wouldn’t find that the kind of music that would normally end up in the banging section, and I was also seeing that in the context of the otherstuff you were posting. It stuck out to me like a sore thumb, compared to say ‘‘Dominik Eulberg’’

I also think sometimes I I engage with stuff on the internet and end up seeming like a **** (insert rude word), without it being the intention. If I get confused, I ask. At least I’m scanning through everything, and I didn’t say anything negative about the music?

Anyway…

Here’s something that may or may not be brain stimulating:

No problem! I just didn’t quite get the intent.

There are definitely a few things in here that could I suppose bang, but then, I posted some things in the bangin’ thread that weren’t AS bangin’ as the rest.

When I think “bangin’” though, I’m thinking Maedon, Paula Temple, Rebekah, Ghost in the Machine, etc. so even the most bangin’ things I posted in here aren’t even going to come close.

Also, psy is pretty mellow despite its tempo, and sometimes hard hitting chirpy kick drums. It’s spacey music really.

It would be like me calling some spacey ambient drum and bass or jungle tune bangin’ just because the tempo was at 167 or so. It’s fast, but it’s still spacey.

I mean, if you’re trying to explain in a detailed way the ins and outs of a very specific sub-genre of music, then I would be right with you. Then, that would make sense to be as exclusive of other things as possible.

That’s just not the goal here. Also, just because I mentioned mellow doesn’t mean there can’t be something a bit more agressive that would still be thought provoking and good to sit back and listen to.

Also, while I’m not into trance in general, I do like SOME psy trance, and while it may not be one of my favorite genres, it could hardly be called mindless. It’s one of the more mind-oriented genres if I’m honest. It’s all about the mind, and psychoacoustics, and creating a sound scape for peoples’ minds to trip on. Doesn’t get more thought provoking than that really.

That said, I wouldn’t put most pure psy trance into this thread. I’d go with the mixed stuff I posted in the Techgnosis posts above.

I agree and he’s one of the reasons I rarely sell anything that doesn’t flat out suck. At some point I figure I’ll integrate everything in true Vosne fashion.

This one is pretty housey, but I actually can’t listen to it enough times. It’s so good!

Sorry to derail but Frisky Dingo is my bag!

Just to say again, i have no real problem with psy-trance  I don’t like A LOT of it, as the more commercial/cheesy end just isn’t to my taste. And that isn’t a dig at cheesier/less underground either, as I LOVE plain old no-psy Trance. It’s what I grew up on and first raved to

This I love:

not sure if it’s is proper psy, goa etc, as I don’t listen to the genre loads. Definitely some techno influence too, althouh YOU KNOW ME :stuck_out_tongue: I like to categorise, and I will not call this Techno :stuck_out_tongue:
