I feel like the more of these TE brings out the more it shows what OP-1 is lacking from the beginning.
Sincere question- what apps/systems are people using to do voice memo to transcription on their smartphones?
Does a single device need to have every feature?
Nope but my point was more that at 2k I would expect a whole lot more.
TE added features to the OP-1 Field but I doubt it was needed to push it for 2k when the original price of the MK1 would still be more than fair imo. (and I mean old price not new).
If they did I might actually grab one.
Very true. 2k would get you a decent laptop as well as an audio interface and a DAW. I am not sure if any device more expensive than that needs to match the versatility of a laptop etc., but it will almost certainly be in the back of any consumer’s mind.
Glittering gold, trinkets, and baubles… Paid for in blood
@MichaalHell does the TP-7 works while connected via a usb-c hub to the TX-6?
I use a usb-c hub with my TX-6 to (clock) sync with the OP-1F and record on a usb drive at the same time.
I haven’t tried. But I would most probably think that it works similar to what you’re describing… if not then it’s probably a FW update away
If it had encryption, maybe a fingerprint reader, a decent built in stereo mic and would run on AAA batteries, that would be an advantage over Zoom/Olympus recorders or mba11“. And a pitch slider. The jog wheel is great. To get back into recording mode after spinning back and listening some seconds, there should be a record thumb button on the right upper edge side.
Still love it and want it. Somehow. It’s cool. It can do a lot. The OP-1 OG also is worth every penny even after almost doubling the price from 799 to 1400 in few years and despite not running on AAA. Glad they dropped the fake care for environment therefore bad box attitude. Landed successfully in Lambo area.
??!!??
(?)?

It would be better if those small battery operated devices would run on AAA batteries instead of built in batteries.

the OP-1 OG is worth every penny despite the fact it does not run on AAA batteries. (Meaning: I assume the TP-7 probably has a lot to offer for the user in terms of UX and results despite missing x, y, z)
Why though? AA or AAA batteries would last way less time, take up more space inside the device thanks to the bits that hold them there, and the need for a hatch or panel, and they’re disposable.
If the OP-1 battery gets low while you’re using it, you can just hook, it up to a USB-C power pack.
Yeah, this is for people whose hobby is spending money and playing with fun gear rather than field recording. Hard to get yourself excited for a $100 zoom recorder, but spend enough money and you’ll get all excited when the new thing comes, and you will run out to excitedly use it. You might get a zoom recorder and never use it because it’s boring.
Honestly it’s a really easy niche for TE to be in. They can price their products ridiculously (compared to the market, not to their materials), they don’t necessarily need to be built well enough to get real “work” done. And you get a ton of people talking about them on the internet. Kind of a win win win for TE. It ends up putting a lot of people off, but those people were never their customers anyway, and if they are annoyed and talking about TE it is free marketing. Basically any time some one yells “this is so overpriced” someone listening in thinks “I wonder what fancy luxury item they are talking about?”
There are companies focusing on selling extremely expensive products in other market segments (for example Chanel) that seems to be doing okay. Why wouldn’t there be a market for this when it comes to audio gear?
If I was made of money, I’d probably own all of their latest products. In fact, in my opinion, this is orders of magnitude more priceworthy than for example a handbag costing $10,000.
Your opinion. I respect that.
People put value in different things and this is what makes the world go round.
The tech is amazing no question. Yet i still have questions
Which i know will never be answered
Anyhoo back to my little cave of blinking lights and bleeps and bloops. ™
The microphone is just a tiny hole. Are there any videos demonstrating sound quality? I would like to use it for interviews, but it shouldn’t be much below the quality of the Olympus recorders for that matter. If I had to connect an external mic it would lose much of its appeal. (Bad enough it isn’t stereo - I should have some electret mics with 3.5mm connector from early Olympus stuff (got a whole box of small recorders and digital dictation devices once from ebay).
