The Art of Surfing and the Magic of Mixing

finding mixing and or creating a cool groove in a musical performance is cool but then the mission is to uphold the energy of the mix or current rhythmic motif, whilst at the same time changing the direction, content or feeling - whether slightly or obviously …

this is like scoring a big tube whilst surfing, and the trick is to make it out of the crystal cylinder in a super enjoyable fashion … to make the barrel so to speak, to ride the tiger but not grab a hold of its tail … rather than getting pumped in the green room, to exit cleanly, straighten out in front or dive through the face to the clear zone behind the tube, to then paddle out for another cool ride.

this is part of the magic of mixing, the joy and challenge of composing, the intricate momentary achievements of improvising. I was going to name this thread: “Secret Tool Most Millionaires Don’t Want You To Know About”, in the latest style of controversial topic imaginating.

They are changing direction all the way, building ups and downs, let voices call and answer, modify the theme, generate variations, come back to where they started …

Recently I read on a blog that we do best, if we imagine a story, which we want to tell using rhythm, sound, harmony, and melody. I think, this concept is close to you comparing making good music with surfing … let’s hear, how you surf
