Behringer should try a sampler next
Behringer arenāt going to come after the specialist bits of gear but will likely clone bread and butter stuff. So, from your analogy I would say that if someone was putting their heart and soul into something so run of the mill then they have been asking for trouble when the big boys come to town!
Iām quite excited by the whole eurorack thing (and āmodernā Behringer in general). Very interested to see what they do next. I get that some arenāt comfortable with their business practices but thatās capitalism for you. Iām probably a lot more forgiving considering my Finance background mind you.
In a way, all of this could encourage more diversity and new and strange modules. The little guys are going to have to think a little more out of the box now.
I think the world has found the answer for this many years ago: if you spent a lot of time designing something, then get a patent and no one will clone it, or they will pay you a lot. Otherwise, all you did, is just making expensive clone of someoneās else invention at your hometown. Obviously without any optimization and planning, what caused high cost of your semi-boutique clone.
To be fair, seems like Behringer is only cloning old, long out of production gearā¦ And if these modules are clones of the Roland system 100 modules, the same continues even with the euro modulesā¦
OK, OK, a guy named Open doesnāt āpayā too much attention the economy, but rather tryās to avoid itā¦ (at all costs)
Iām more concerned with morals and ethicsā¦
Maybe theyāll make new modules instead of clones even, what do I knowā¦
Donāt want to stir anything up, Iām just always rooting for the underdogā¦
Iām certainly open to reading contradicting opinionsā¦
They will probably use their new VCO VCF chips and old classic design i guess.
When you think about it this can be good too for the other competitors If Eurorack become more accessible and popular. Of course i would be very shocked if they start cloning original design like the Math or Mutable instrument modules but my guess is were going to see more classic design (old Roland, Moog etc).
This is already going on without Behringer help

To be fair, Make Noise Maths is not totally original. Itās based on Buchla / Serge designs.
Direct clones of MN stuff would be pretty questionable move from Behringer and I donāt think we are going to see them, but I would like to see some west coast inspired designs - maybe even clones of 1970s Buchla / Serge stuff.
Look at the price.
It is actually pretty crazy this hasnāt happened to the industry until now.
Behringer is bringing functional tools to the masses, small makers are bringing products of nuance and exceptional quality.
Something tells me this discussion is all for nought and everyone is gonna be happy in the end and there will be less lonely synth folk.
Uli detailed the Eurorack modules that Benringer is planning. Theyāre all āclonesā of the Roland model 100.
There are thirteen modules desribed here, and you can download more detail info on them there. Behringer will pick some subset of these thirteen to release first, with more to follow, including designs inspired by the Deepmind and the Neutron.
Uli talks about future plans here.

I saw that Sonic State had a video clip at Superbooth 18 showing the Behringer VC340 Vocoder keyboard, and the Pro-One desktop, with a flash in the background of the Neutron.
In the video the Behringer demonstrator, responding to a question about when this will be available and said approximately, āWe donāt have a date for this yet, we have so many orders for the synths that are before this in the pipeline, so itās going to take a while.ā
I must say the demo of this, sounds really antique and quaint. It surprised me. This might not be the most commercial of synths in Behringerās āpipelineā, but they certainly have a little something for everyone.
The poor little forgotten VC340. I guess this is a probable for full production.
The one good thing about all the cheap Behringer clones is that they will always be worth less than their new price, because of the amount they will need to churn out, invariably after a while lots will show up used, so if you are considering buying any of the new Behringer stuff wait a year after they first come out and buy used, you will probably save even more, like 50%, if price is all you care about.
Iād love for a load of people to ask them to clone the Akai Timbre Wolf.
No doubt, although how much less than $300 do you want to go? I have a feeling too that some of the Tribe will be in more demand, with fewer people dumping them ā the Neutron for example.
With the VC340 being between $700 and $1000 though, that one leaves room for the Waldorf STVC which i think is a much better system, doing what the VC340 does and a lot more.
ADDED: With neither of these two ever being large sellers.
Saw a wolf on eBay for 165$ today, a steal. That thing is so underrated.
I donāt think Iād even buy one used. Although I really do not like the company I canāt deny that the Neutron sounded quite nice and had some good fairly unique features, it still looks like shit IMHO, but Iād prefer them to focus on stuff like that rather than cashing in on vintage designs.
Iām a full-on raving socialist, and I have no problem with Behringer cloning 50-year-old technology.
Iām still a little suspicious of them quality-wise, but I guess weāll know in a few years whether everyoneās Deepminds are still working.
That said, Iām not that interested in their reproductions, but would be very interested if they actually got round to making this quality stereo multi-fx box that seems to have been proposed and then disappearedā¦ Thatās a niche where thereās actually not much competition, unlike analogue monosynths.
