The FX tips & tricks thread

My hope is that this could be kind of a reference thread where everyone can share their cool FX tips! I’m personally really interested in tips of how to get the reverb (which so far haven’t really impressed me) to sound good/great & cool ideas for modulation.

My tip:
I like to use a slow LFO with a small amount of depth to modulate delay time to get a kind of unstable “vintagy” sound.

Try modulating the reverb send with a slow free-running LFO or the envelope generators or some combination of modulators. Having the reverb level jump around in time to the music generally sounds a lot more interesting than just having it static - assuming you’re making techno music of some kind, of course.

Also, I often set the Reverb time to 96 which is exactly 1/8th note, and then use one track to make a nice kick drum…send the kick to the reverb and you have this nice dark syncopated sound that’s quite diferent from the usual hi hat/ Tweak the time of the reverb slightly for positive or negative swing, messing with the gate and the high pass filter will change the character considerably.

Would love to here more on this subject.

I like to keep my fx track at 12 steps with minimal trigs similar to what Anigbrowl suggests then extend to 16 steps for a fill/break with with a trig between 12-16 longer reverb, different delay time etc then snap it back to 12 for the groove, but mainly i just fuck around :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Good thread this one. Tell me, do you have a to-go setting on FX send Delay, Reverb and so?
