Particular gauge?
No risk to break stings?
I usually use DADAAD for different tuning, I also experimented AEAEAE with a custom gauge. Interesting for sitar like sounds.
For my 8 strings I started with EBEADGBE instead of F#BEADGBE but now I use it with E root only.
Been on 10s for ages in this tuning. It can feel a little risky tuning up like that but I never had any issues on most of the guitars I owned. A couple of Fenders, a G&L, DāAngelico. I actually like that the strings are wound kind of tight now. Canāt remember the last time I broke one. I used to break strings every single show when I played a cheap Epiphone, but I was just starting out, strumming way too bluntly and Iād have bleeding fingers in addition to broken strings. Terrible.
DADAAD sounds like something I gotta try!
Also Iām a big fan of using a capo. 4th fret is amazing to come up with stuff that sounds different from what I usually do.
Anyone put their guitars thru the AH?
I had one on tryB4Ubuy but neglected to put the guitars thru it
Then again, without mid EQ, is it more trouble than itās worth?
Yes I did. Very clean distortion, much less noise than with Analog Drive. I particularly liked the Round Fuzz, based on Octavia Fuzz.
Sounded good thru an amp.
Sold, I donāt have regular style recordings of it, but this is guitar thru AH only, with realtime sampling / mangling with OT, no samples.
Sound more like a synth with itās thin distortion and filter! Drums made from incoming sound too, previously sequenced.
So I recently moved into a place where my 50 watt amps arenāt really welcome. Really even a champ is too much. So I think I gotta get a modeler. Iām leaning towards the strymon iridium but am wondering if anybody else has heard it or prefers something else. Iām really not interested in a Kemper or Axe FX because they are spendy and if Iām being honest with myself, my Marshall 1987, 2204, and collection of classic Fenders got most of my attention when I had a wall of amps ready to go in my old studio. I really like my JC-120 too, but thatās a different beast. Thanks for any thoughts on modelers that you all might share.
Iridium seems good from what Iāve heard of it. The DSM/Humboldt Simplifier is also worth a look in the same price range. It has EL34, 6L6 and KT88 modes.
Having said that, if itās not a space issue you can get something like that Blackstar combo I posted a bit further up and get the real valve sound direct out with a cab / speaker sim without making any noise.
I have the Iridium and itās VERY nice. Definitely the quality you would expect from Strymon. For me, that and the Flint are a match made in heaven.
FYI, the one tube amp that Iāve found works for city living for me in an old 1970s vibrochamp. The speaker is really inefficient so you can get some really nice sounds at low volume. Iāve hung on to this and big old Fender reverb tank as itās sort of the sound I was after for many years.
Which one? Why? What preamp? With or without power amp/loadbox?
I had CAB, VB101, Live.
I wonāt change my mind about HX stomp, even if the sound quality was a little under for amp modeling, parameters are better for me to sculpt the sound more precisely, many fx controllable by 2 pedals and midi control.
I was answering @5dollazz that has amps. So if they want to keep using the amps at apartment (or whatever) volume then a two notes type solution is the best imo. I personally have a torpedo live but would probably get a captor x if I were to redo it. Or the boss option seems cool, since it has super versatile attenuation options.
