There’s a bunch of 2-in-1 fuzz octave pedals out there now, compared to none back then, so I’m guessing it’s a harmoniser. But it’s a sound I use all the time, so just an educated guess. Had my eye on the Spaceman Nebula for a while now, but slacking it with a Bogner Wessex thru a H9.
Anybody on here owns the cba automatone?
Strandberg posted a cute photo of somebody cosplaying as a anime character “playing” a Strandberg. I wasn’t familiar with that anime, so I had some fun looking up this character, named Rokka “Lock” Asahi
The voice actresses who played the rock band Houkago Tea Time in K-On! were given a few weeks to learn how to play instruments so that they could play a short mini-set of about 3 songs as part of a 2-hour extravaganza featuring music and some voice-acting performances from K-On!
Seems like the bar has been raised quite a bit since that time. The Bang Dream franchise features a bunch of all-girl virtual bands which appear in video games and anime. But some of those virtual bands appear in live-action concerts and play real shows at a pro vel. The character in the above clip is in one of those bands, in this case Raise A Suilen. Apparently most of the members of this band - except the DJ, who had to learn how to work the turntables after getting cast for this role - were musicians first, who got voice actor training later. Here’s the band, including the voice actress/guitarist who plays this girl:
I tried it at the shop. Took my Jazzmaster.
I wasn’t overly impressed. No WOW moments. Sonically it doesn’t slouch at all, but I’m comparing to my current standard which is the Bogner Wessex plus Lyndhurst.
Shop dude reckons it’s only impressive for the recall of settings, which I agree would be gold when playing a gig. I think that’s the wow factor, and it’s pretty well covered in YT vids.
I then tried the CBA Condor, to try the sculpting tricks at half the price. This one I like a lot. Going to pop in with my Bass sometime for another go.
I have one and can vouch for it.
I got mine after Rob Flax, professional fiddler, recommended it to other electric fiddle players. Electric violin players rely on EQ pedals more than guitarists because most hate the midrange boost that guitar dirt pedals tend to produce - sounds great for Strats and Teles, terrible for electric violin.
thanks for sharing - neither demo blew me away sonically - the versatility is pretty cool for a unit like this though. and the design is unbeatable
I’d always thought of the Mustang as strictly for kids and small adults
But then I saw Melanie Faye’s latest advert for guitar lessons, featuring herself jamming on a Fender American Performer Mustang. Not like she’s a giant human either but there are more normal sized peeps playing Mustangs than I thought.
I also used to think flatter radius necks are always better. But now I think different neck geometries are better suited to different jobs. And some chord stretches would be easier on that smaller scale neck. If I see an American Performer Mustang on sale on Reverb I might be tempted to pick one up.
Taking the bass in today to try the CBA Condor again.
Apart from the fact that it just sounded great on guitar, was that it instantly sculpted exactly the way it says on the box. Really quick to get the sweet spot you could say. Hoping it does so on the Bass too.
Also tried the Eventide H9 for the first time last night on guitar, after having it over a month. The damn thing is an instant cheat sheet to dream-pop/shoegaze grandeur!
If it was good enough for Kurt cobain, then why not play one right?
Certainly good enough for Melanie Faye too. Too bad they stopped making them in that penny finish. Penny finish with the Classicgear tuning machines would be pretty sweet.
Reverb dude, that kind of stuff pops up.
Yup its in my post
Had a nice little result this evening. Back story - My pal has a couple of Yamaha BB basses and one of them, a BB1100S which had previously been refinished (poorly) was looking rather forlorn. He decided to strip it and give it a waxed finish so he asked me to disassemble it. He’d take the body, finish it and return it for me to reassemble and get working as the active was dead.
Anyway I stripped the bridge and cleaned it up give the pups a once over and got it back together. Strung and set up then turned to the electronics. The main issues were the selector switch, the battery and one of the active tone controls which was practically seized solid. Sorted the other bits but I’ve hunted around for a replacement pot but to no avail. It’s a centre tapped pot with a centre detent. Anyway I whipped it out and set to work with some contact cleaner and elbow grease and voila, lubed and working as good as new. I suspect some varnish had got into the pot shaft as there was evidence of it everywhere; whoever had finished it in the past hadn’t taken any of the electronics or hardware off the guitar. No erratic behaviour from the pot so thankfully the track doesn’t seem to have been fatally damaged.
Always a winner when a repair doesn’t cost you anything🙂!
He’s done a great job with the finish on the body. Neck has been left as is. His other BB is an absolutely minty 5 string, a 1100 in natural. It’s a gem.
Quick pic of my original early 80’s BB1200. It’s got a broader body than the later shape with shorter horns. It’s such a comfy bass and kills the P Bass sound. I need to get it back off my music buddy… I’m missing it terribly😂
I’m 6’2" and I play a Mustang. It’s the most playable guitar I ever picked up. It’s a '65 reissue in Olympic White (MIJ) and there’s one that looks just like it in Devo’s ‘Worried Man’ video:
Thurston Moore played one sometimes, and he’s a giant. Ty Segall really rocked one. David Byrne, Kurt Cobain (obviously), and they’re great for indie rhythm guitar (MBV, Pixies etc.)
I bought this but I’m a bit worried it’s only got two strings and what looks like an apple growing out of the top…
Is it a new thing? Do I need a moustache and a v neck Slazenger sweater?
My other vintage Aria, the classic SB1000. This one had replacement active electronics and the new knobs fitted before I bought it.
