Devices like Machinedrum and Monomachine are part of “the legacy” aka no longer produced.
Just wondering how long the current Elektron devices have until they become part of the legacy. Is there a way to tell? Is it announced beforehand usually? I understand that mkII replaces mkI devices, but what about Digitakt? Digitone? How long will these devices be available new?
As you can tell, I’m fairly new to Elektron (love the company and what they do). When there’s something I feel that I really want, I wouldn’t want to miss out
Not very long, hurry up, Elektron has been bought by IKEA!
With the climate crisis, you never know. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy anything.
The silver-machines had a really long run. Something like 15 years.
When the parts used for a product becomes difficult to acquire, it is probably time to think about what to do.
Also, new advances in technology creates new possibilities, which can form the basis for new products. And then it might be time to discontinue an older product.

Also ‘legacy’ doesn’t mean they’ll be abandoned.
Analog Four Mk1, Analog Keys and Analog Rytm Mk1 were considered legacy when the got the recent update that enabled the sequencer to send midi.
People had requested that for years.
Wasn’t Octatrack Mk1 also legacy when the conditional trigs update was released?
Imho this update brought sequencing on the OT to a whole new level.
Also Elektrons built quality is pretty good, tons of used Elektrons floating around and usually it’s not a problem getting a used one in like-new-condition.
Yes! Finally get some decent racks!
The term “Legacy” is often used for products that are no longer in production. When that happens, well, is up to the manufacturer. Product lifecycle is determined by a number of factors, but it’s mostly driven by sales. When the sales start dwindling past a point where it no longer makes sense to continue production, that product usually gets discontinued. I would feel comfortable that the Digitakt/Digitone still have plenty of time before that happens to them. Though, in this modern era of “the next great thing” maybe it happens sooner than we realize?
