If you could go back in time for 60 minutes, in an era before electronic instruments where invented. Destination: a crowded place along with 10000watts of battery powered pa system as a companion… Where and when would you pop up and which device do you bring and why?
Lyra 8. Any point in history before steam.
Because I’ll come back to a world where I’m God.
I’d go back to the day the Younger Dryas period got off to a roaring start. I’d bring a video camera to document the sky and the massive geological changes that took place. I’d probably trip over a few northern hemisphere megafauna carcasses in the process. I’d ask around and try to learn how the hell the primitives knew that Mars is red. I’d load up the field recordings in to my OT once I returned to the modern day.
…seriously…this ain’t funny at all…i’m the singer in a time travel band…so stay back everybody…
time is mine…
Ancient Rome any gladiatorial arena, Elektron Analog Rytm, instant old school techno rave, are you not entertained
I forgot that those times had no artificial lightsources so you’re free to ad a strobelight to your setup. Great for medieval fights at night.
Don’t need the p.a.
Just two headphone’s one for me and one for Ludwig.
I’m having a little problem picking the exact keyboard synth. Analog, polysynth, at least eight voice multitimbral, and very easy to use. It would be nice if it had some nice effects, i think he’d like that. Filters would also be a blast too.
Maybe a Prophet Rev 2, or an OB-6. Is that a bad choice? Would Herr Beethoven enjoy playing that? The only time i’d touch the synth is to show him how to do something, and then I’d just listen.
Second choice would be Bach.
How would that change music, to have either knowing those sounds ?
For Bach I’d bring something with a complex sequencer and/or arp–I wouldn’t want to bother with samples, so maybe an A4 or DN keys. Or hell, maybe just a bunch of modular… (could a eurorack case count as “one” piece of gear)? I think he’d get it pretty quick.
Give him a Blofeld Keyboard
Moog One 16, surely
I considered the Moog One, but think that the UI is too overwhelming for a one hour sit down, even with a musical genius from the 18th century. But for that — the Moog One would be an excellent choice.
What is the best analog multitimbral polysynth, with a simple user interface ?
(Is the answer to that off-topic ?)
I like the idea of seeing Beethoven, or Bach wearing headphones.
ADDED: It is interesting to consider that someone from the 18th century, with organ and piano keyboards, and organ stops, would quite quickly understand sound modification controls on a 21st century synth. Perhaps two keyboards, a “dual manual” would help. Or would Bach and Beethoven just naturally relate to a keyboard like the one on the Osmose ???
Ah, fair, yeah — I think the switch between stops and knobs would be a pretty obvious one, actually, for all that a simpler architecture probably makes sense. I’d actually suggest that a pair of La Voix du Luthier Pyramids would also make for an easier transition — the world through headphones is such a different space.
I’ve created a new thread for part two of the fantasy journey.
