Tutorial: breakbeats on rytm

Hi!

I recorded a tutorial on how I use breakbeats on the Elektron Rytm. This was a first attempt at making a tutorial and I’m planning to add more content soon!

Thanks for checking it out!

I liked it, thanks. I had never thought of using the RYTM that way. A crucial step, it seems, is the preparation of the breakbeat samples, so that they are pitched correctly, and of matching length. You did kind of rush over that, I’d like to know more about it…maybe a short follow up video on sample preparation (I know, as soon as someone makes a cool youtube video everyone wants MORE, sorry!)

Preparing the samples is not too complicated, just a bit tedious.

First you need to collect a few breakbeats, I recommend checking out archive.org and dogsonacid.com. Next you trim out the breakbeat from the material you have, using a multiple of 16 steps. Make sure that each of these breaks you trim is perfectly looping.

The last step is to do the re-pitching so that each of the breaks has the same length (i.e. same length for all breaks with 16 steps, double the length for all breaks with 32 steps).

I used audacity for trimming the breaks and the commandline tool sox to re-pitch the breaks to identical length.

Hope this helps to clarify the process
