I’m in front of a very difficult dilemma here and a known one I presume: Used analog four MKI or Monomachine.
My set up is the following :
OT MKII
Analog rytm MKII
Korg Minilogue
Prophet 12
I make Idm, dowtempo, electronica kind of music and I’m hesitating a lot between the two machines understanding there capabilities and difference in sound. I can potentially get an A4 for 600 euros used or the monomachine for 800 euros used.
What do you guys think ?
Ps: Also which one could potentially be used to sequence my Prophet 12, that I’m not sure of.
Unless the Prophet has CV inputs- the Monomachine would be the go-to for sequencing- as it’s the only one out of the two with ext. midi.
Other than that- perhaps check out YouTube for some sound demos of both.
As far as workflow- the A4 has the more advanced sequencer/kit structure of the two.
The Monomachine has a much broader sonic palette.
Whichever you get, you’ll probably be happy(though if you get an A4 mk1, you might run the risk of being compelled to upgrade).
The monomachine is the mk2 with a plus drive? If it’s not the +drive, I’d lean more towards the A4
Monomachine, especially if it’s a mkii w/+drive. It’s a very versatile box. 5 different types of synthesis, also thru fx for external gear. The Monomachine midi sequencer can plock program changes to every step, and send arp.
Yes it is the one with the +drive. I’ve looked at many videos and I do understand the differences in timber and sounds but unfortunately, contrary to the A4, i couldn’t try the MnM in a store. I really like the MKII version of the A4 but somehow I feel more like the MnM is a unique machine like the MD. I agree with you sezare56 A4 seem to be much easier to find compared to the Monomachine. I feel like you said that if I get the chance to get my hand on it I should just go for it and I can always sell it back if it doesn’t suit my sound.
I feel like the A4, although very powerful, would have a more straight forward analog sound that would be more easy to replicate. The Reverb sounds very nice though…
