Used OT sold as new

Just received an OT from a well known and well respected UK music shop.

It is supposed to be brand new, but when I opened the box it was covered in animal hairs, dirt on the machine itself and the CF card, crumpled power box, crumpled plastic bag holding the unit and the internal black box was ripped.

I’m tempted to just send back for a full refund. Any advice?

Thanks.

Send it back!

Yes sounds obvious right, but I wasn’t sure if sending out returned units is a done thing, as I’m sure loads of people return stuff within the 14 days policy.

Do this. They chanced their arm with you, don’t let them get away with it!!

The irony is that the last one I bought was 18 months old used and was cleaner!

OK I’ve emailed them. They’re normally very good so hopefully it will get resolved easily.

I hope so. Maybe it was an honest mistake

Thanks guys. Just wanted to check that I wasn’t being be a d*ck about it before causing a fuss

Sad to hear this from you mate :crying_cat_face:
You should definitely call them…
Btw I’m in love with OT !

Nope, no dck-ishness detected at all. Anyone passing off used goods as new is the dick and actually a fraudster! Good luck!

Agreed. Should either be sold as an open box (with a nice discount) or returned and replaced / refunded.

Andertons did this with me on an Octatrack last December

Hearing things like this infuriates me.

I had to send back a Vermona MK2 perfourmer, my original purchase OB-6 keyboard AND an Analog Four to DV247 for selling them new when they were clearly opened items.

Really drives me nuts when dealers try to get away with selling opened gear as new items.

Yeah it should have been listed as B-stock but honestly if it hadn’t been for the animal hair and dirt I probably wouldn’t be that bothered - as long as the OT was immaculate.

I kind of see it from their point of view too. Lots of people must send things back with the new distance selling rules after they’ve tried them. The retailers stand to lose out a lot, even giving B-stock discount.

If they are going to chance it, you’d think at least clean dust, dirt and animal hair out of it! Most people wouldn’t accept that even for legit used items!

EDIT: The problem with all this distance returned stuff is that you have no idea how many times around the block a piece ‘new’ equipment has been. It could have been returned 12 times over a year, being used the whole time by different people for a month each, be a year old used machine and still be classed as ‘new’! Could it?

The animal hair just made me a little nauseous

Probably an honest mistake where a return which should have been listed as B-Stock made its way back in with the new gear

everyday you are ingesting lots other humans and other life forms on earth skin, hair, body and feces particles by breathing, swallowing and eating. a few hairs on an instrument is nothing…suck it up, aint no where else to live.

Edit post close: Apologies if I offended anyone. finding animal hairs in a product is disgusting by most conventional standards. What we consume or are exposed to has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, nor does it excuse or remedy the fact the OP found animal hairs in his new toy.

Bro… are you serious?? True if you live in a shithole I guess… I dont want to know how you feel about showers… :joy::joy::joy:
