hi there
I’m about to start a new set on Analog Four MKI (wich I’ve recently got ahold of) and Octatrack MKI
I was thinking of routing the A4 thru Octatrack’s AB input (DIR), so I can get used to leveling all my OT tracks accordingly to the volume I get from the A4 (I don’t want to waste an OT track on a thru machine).
my question is, is there any downside on using the A4 at full volume? I’m already trying to keep the OSC levels low to avoid saturation pre-filter
I had exactly the same setup for a few times. I`m not aware of any downsides. I believe that it is always better to have the original signal loud and then turn it down on the mixer or ot if needed. If you have a low signal and you raise the volumen on your OT or Mixer, the signal can get noisy.
It`s a little bit like scaling a picture. If the pic has a low resolution and you scale it up, you will see giant pixels. So it’s better to create or render the pic in height resolution.
But i`m a noob, hopefully someone with more knowledge and better English skills knows more and can answers this question.
I suggest to always lower the volumen when you turn off the unit, otherwise you will lose your hearing when you switch the headphone in the A4 output and while volumen is still on max.
