Using FilterFreak/other plugins to get this squishy, grainy drum sound

Hey everyone,

Been trying to achieve a certain effect on my drums, and while I’ve gotten close, I haven’t really nailed down a process.

A good example would be this Skee Mask track. I know he uses a Jomox T-Resonator, though I would gather I could get a pretty similar effect by using Soundtoys FilterFreak and/or Grainspace (granular plugin), both of which I own. I just haven’t gotten there. Granite has a preset that came close, though unfortunately that can’t treat live audio.

Any pointers here would definitely be appreciated.

My favourite album of last year - love 50 Euro To Break Boost. Seems like on Via Subs there are plenty of layers to the drums, with the main kick + snare being underpinned by other drum/percussion patterns which have been duplicated, filtered, chopped and retriggered as a new percussion track.

Maybe an arp is spitting MIDI out to trigger the filtered drum parts or something; just a guess and probably wrong, but could be a good starting point.
