Very tempted to buy a MKI

Oooooooook a couple of questions.

  1. The A4’s arp doesn’t work over MIDI but does work over CV?!?! This is less a question and more of a “why?” I would mostly use the arp for modular anyways but it’s just so frustrating to me why elektron won’t give us a MIDI arp on things like the DN and A4 (more melodic instruments) but will on the OT.

  2. So I hear y’all on the polyphony loud and clear. But my question is if i just wanted to use it as a 4 voice poly synth then i would have problems? Like, i can’t just activate a channel, tweak the sound and get four voices off that channel? I understand it does not have CTRL all like the digi’s but will I have to make tweaks to each channel to get the same sounds on 4 voice polyphony? Or does it have voice stealing like the DN?

  3. And this is kinda tech question but does it have key tracking on the LFOs? One thing that really turned me onto the nymphs was key tracking on the LFO’s (the higher you play the faster the rate) and does it have a mode where each LFO would start when a key is struck? Or do the LFO’s “catch up” so they are all in phase.

Thanks this has been a lot of help!

This was my experience as well when I still had the A4 mk1. Had the Keystep as my controller and always preferred the sounds I got playing the A4 with the buttons. Your the first person I remember reporting the same experience, although like you said there’s probably an obvious explanation to this (velocity).

It has a poly mode that let’s you play a single track as a 4 voice poly, but obviously voice stealing comes in if you decide to use another track.
Closest thing to LFO tracking is the tuned fm lfo mode, I can’t really remember off the top of my head how slow the lfo can go in that mode as I used it for fm mostly. I suppose you can also lock the lfo per step and manually track a sound.

danks tude.

Love the features and how compact it all is. Hate the sound of it. No character to the basic waveforms. Generally very weak sounding in my opinion. I’ve owned two and sold them both. It just takes too much effort to get anything good from them. Should have used their ears more during development.
