Hey Gang,
I feel like this had been discussed but I couldn’t really find anything with the search.
I would like to start sharing some music on here soon and am wondering about the different methods of doing so.
I don’t have a soundcloud or anything, I do have a YouTube account but I haven’t really used it. If I used YouTube does it have to be a video? If I just had an audio track can I attach it to a still image video easily?
How about just uploading to the files section, or is there another spot in Elektronauts to upload, or do we have to link from another hosting site?
If we can upload straight to here, what are the file types and size limits allowed?
Any info on the various methods to get music on here would be appreciated…
My source files are .wav, .aif, and .caf mostly at 96 sample rate…
I don’t know if I’m ready for bandcamp… I’m a secret backwoods electronic musician and haven’t trickled anything out on the webs yet. My plan was to setup bandcamp/soundcloud/YouTube or whatever when I have my live set ready to perform and some more polished recordings done…
I kinda want to just share some rough around the edges sonic experiments, and figured if they could be hosted on here that would be good for me to start off more sneakily…
I know where you’re coming from but no harm having an account on Soundcloud or something for your ideas and stuff. A lot of people warn off doing that cause you should only put your finished stuff out there on the web and all that shit but I’m like chill man, I’m never gonna make it pro so who cares!
Surely there is some means of sharing ideas though in an environment that’s largely safe and open to feedback/ideas?
It’s a shame Elektronauts lost the feature that EU had with some of your tunes as a footer on your posts too actually.
Just set no download, unlisted (nope it must be in public mode) then you share the link and it’s like anonymous except for here
EDIT : (ok it has to be in Public mode apparently…)
It doesn’t look like that’s the way it’s set to work - a file wouldn’t have a player, so it’s be a complete faff to listen if you were curious and it may make searching the files section a bit random
Clypit seems like a good compromise, it plays in browser
It’s definitely possible to upload directly, but I don’t know if there are file size limits (and i’d certainly skip the 96k uploads)
I’m trying to post a single hit directly below (just drag into reply)
I don’t know if larger files will be frowned upon (or resampled) - I suppose we can ask @elektronauts for a view on this
That sounds perfect…
And thanks for the added info @avantronica…
Edit: I guess it sounds “almost” perfect now that you mention it has to be public. I liked the idea of an unlisted file that just shows up if I link to it, but still I’ll check this out…
OK, I guess I’ll experiment with just dragging into the reply as well…
(I’ll start with smaller files and sample rates and then see how far I can increase them)
Hi! For now at least we have no intention of hosting audio in Elektronauts. That might change but for now a third party service is a better option. However, technically you can upload your files to a conversation and link to them wherever. Not sure if it’s considered good practice here though .
Soundcloud is basically an equivalent of Clyp (it appears to be, at least) - there’s no obligation or anything, you can share any old thing (without making it available for download)))) - pretty low key for sharing audio / rough drafts / sketches
also, you can upload any format, choose to share it or not, attach an image etc. nobody really cares, and there are a lot of really good tracks / people uploading music to SC, so you can make rough playlists, ‘follow’ others, and stream stuff that might appeal to you. it’s very fluid and easy, no frills. be confident in your own material / work-in-progress/ tossed off sketch, if/when you want to share, and people will give you feedback if you request it (share a link etc.)
Have you got round to posting yet. You’re the most consistently positive poster on here, never ever a negative vibe, I’m looking forward to your music. I imagine it as a cross between Elliot Smith, lenard cohen and Ian Curtis, the total opposit to your vibe
