The thing is that new AR are shipped with updates : E, now F.
None of these updates are visible on the Elektron site.
I bought my AR a few weeks ago with 1.02E, but because of the very HD and longtime view on the screen, i thought it was 1.02B. B&E can be confusing regarding the conditions, and maybe some bad-ass-eyes. So, i saw the 1.02D on the site, latest one, and i downgraded by uploading 1.02D.
I asked Elektron, and Olle answered me : “The E version only affects the manufacturing process and makes no differences for the enduser so there is no need to worry.”
Two questions.
1° - I wonder why Elektron label new updates “E” some update which does not concern customers - because this update is not supposed to make any change for users - but only for Elektron team, concerning “manufacturing process”. Big source of confusion, no ?
2° - I’m astonished to meet a new “F” update now, that still not appearing on Elektron site.
The final question is : What is “E”, and what is “F” ?
Are these new updates shipped with latest machines, finally only software updates ? And concerning what, exactly, if so ?
I’m sorry, but some explanations are needed. May be i did not understand anything.
The letters at the end of the version numbers in Elektron-land mean that the release is about fixing bugs rather than new features. If there were minor new features, the version would be 1.03. If there were significant new features, the version number would be 1.1.
I speculate that the 1.02E and 1.02F versions are either minor bug fixes or minor updates to built-in quality assurance testing routines.
I’m sure there’s nothing noteworthy going on.
I’m certainly running F, no confusion there, i doubt there’ll be anything i can discern from the sounds of it regarding differences. I am however finding my own way around the pads and sensitivity for the first time (except brief shop test) so i won’t know if anything is slightly altered or not. Makes you wonder why they specify a different letter at all, unless they’re expecting end-user feedback which they can interpret !
I’m having a massive amount of inconsistency when it comes to multiple simultaneous mute selects, the workaround is simple but not intuitive, not a big issue, just throws you a bit
when i say workaround, i mean what it says in the manual - i.e. Fn+Hold or try to strum the pads rather than press simultaneously - i don’t think the issue is pad or user error related, i think it is how the os deals with ‘simultaneous’ presses, i may well be wrong, but it’s no major issue, just throws me a bit when the light doesn’t change
Elektron does give fairly detailed release notes in the PDF that accompanies the firmware update files posted to their website: http://www.elektron.se/support-and-downloads
It’s unusual for bug fix releases like 1.02E and 1.02F that are shipping with machines to not be posted on their website.
to be fair, in response to another member’s q, they said these letter designations were for internal purposes, relating to manufacture and not bug fixes, so there’s nothing to write up and no doubt there’s no point having x number of users potentially brick their machines for a non upgrade os, it is puzzling what the differences might be tho
