I’m committed to adding a monomachine when I have the money. I’m just curious about what i can ditch to further that process along. My intent is to replace a Waldorf Blofeld. I love the sound quality and capability of the Blofeld, but absolutely despise the interface. (except when the display reflects CC changes, i love that)
Anyhow, will the Monomachine replace my Blofeld in terms of sound quality and capability? If i can dropkick the Blofeld, it would bring me closer to Elektronaut goal.
Bonus question: Does the Monomachine have a workflow similar to the Machinedrum? because that’s why i want one…
I always liked the MM + Blofeld combo. Using midi lfos and plocks to sequence Blofeld with MM makes it a much more enjoyable instrument.
Sonically, the Blofeld is quite versatile. The comb filter and parallel filter routing make it very unique.
As for workflow, MM’s workflow is closer to MD than anything else, and vice versa.
You would probably love the MM+MD combo, but maybe try keeping Blofeld in the mix with the two before you kick it out the door.
I have the MNM and have used the Blofeld as my main synth for several years until it got side lined by the Nord A1.
I don`t see the MNM replacing a Blofeld.
Like AdamJay said Using the MNM to control Blofeld parameters does help.
I can relate to your Blofeld Frustrations I do have a love hate relationship with mine as well. But to be honest it offers a whole lot of functionality at its price point. The Pads and Modulation Matrix possibilities of the Blofeld set it apart from the MNM machine or any other VA synth for that matter.
A Word of caution though if you really want to master the Mono machine be prepared for a steep learning curve because its full of endless possibilities.
And the UI will get get on your nerves at times as well.
When used in combination with external Midi Gear the MNM is hands down one killer piece of Kit. The FM machines are great just hold on to the Blofeld for pad like textures and all those other filthy digital sounds that can not be properly described by words alone.
Sound quality is a matter of personal preference, and you should check out examples of the Monomachine for yourself.
Trading Blofeld for Monomachine would mean that you might miss some of the specific synthesis capabilities (Waldorf wavetables, filter types & routing, modulation matrix) and polyphony of the Blofeld.
The Monomachine has a very similar UI to the MD, which may or may not translate into a similar “workflow” for you. Perhaps the MM could replace your MD instead of replacing the Blofeld?
If you sell the Blofeld and then regret it, you should easily be able to find another one to buy again later.
