Earlier enjoyment of curation also involved sharing with friends, DJing parties, and the attention economy has really wrecked the ability to exchange time with them that’s not stolen and made exclusive by apps and whatever the top “influencers” are.
I mean obviously there are better people in the world than what I do but on the whole it’s exposed people to a lot of others that are objectively worse than what I do but put more energy into being an online figure which… fuck that.
I still hold movie streaming dates with smaller groups of friends where we curate “badfilm”, genre, cult, or legitimately overlooked classics (by my definition) that deserve more attention.
