Shock G/ Humpty Hump has died at the age of far too soon 57
Shock G was a legendary and underrated Keyboardist and MC, Humpty’s Lyrics weren’t your garden variety stupid party rhymes, he was a dope lyricist and MC underneath all of the nonsense…
and on top of all of that he believed in unity among all people no matter color of skin, creed, or background!
Oh no!
sucks. Shock G is a true legend. saw digital underground live back in the day. good times. such good vibes w/their tunes. could instantly set a good mood in a house party. such classic fun hiphop weirdness.
RIP.
Damn…

Damn, Humpty Dance and Doowutchyalike were songs I grew up with. Digital Underground had some pretty dope production too. RIP Shock G
Losing a lot of artists at an early age. Everyone take care of yourselves and enjoy the time you’ve got.
Pressing F.
Oh damn. Shock G was a musical giant and a great human. One of those people who really got it. A legend in both hip hop and funk but so humble that he had to make an alter ego to do his bragging for him. Oakland hero. R.I.P.
That sucks.
Was sad to read this today, another one gone.
I was in 8th grade when the Humpty Dance was popular. The middle school dances blew up when they played that. 2 PAC was in Digital Underground. Actually. Digital Underground was pretty ground breaking for the time. Best beats. Best rhymes. Good stuff. Sad to see dude go at age 57
Early 2000’s he lived/stayed here in Tucson for a hot minute. Was a really cool and down to earth guy. Never threw any clout about when he hung out with my friends, even though we were all a little star struck at first. Damn shame to die so young. Had so much talent. May your soul pass with ease where ever it’s journey leads.
Sad, RIP! 57 is way too young! But now you are reunited with 2Pac! Hope you are making some hiphop bangers in heaven!
f
May he rest in peace.
Didn’t see this till now, bummer.
Man, that hit me hard. Greg and DU were local hometown heroes when I was growing up in Berkeley and Oakland and that summer of 89 it was Paul’s Boutique and Sex Packets that changed how I heard and eventually made music. Huge loss, huge talent, huge hip hop icon. To Shock G, the one who put the satin on your panties, I toast you rest well.
What a bummer. It felt like Shock G and Humpty Hump could never die. And it feels doubly sad because I can never think of the Digital Underground without thinking that something was lost when West Coast rap went in the direction of gangster rap and Death Row Records instead of the fun, goofy direction that was laid out by the Underground.
A world where rappers came up trying to be like Shock G/Humpty and trying to make albums like Sex Packets instead of being like Death Row would have been a better world. Tupac would still be alive and Pharcyde would have released seven follow ups to Bizarre Ride.
Wise words. I’m with you buddy.
