Wrong psu sent with box from supplier

Hey chaps , just picked up the rytm, unfortunately there was a mix up at the shop and it was supplied with an octatrack psu, does any one know if the octatrack psu can damage the rytm ? its boxed away now and waiting on replacment but I’m curious if this is going to turn into a nightmare…

curious if i should set up a rtb or chance waiting on a new psu

cheers n beers

just to note , the psu powered everythng up but no noise

Ouhhh shouldn’t have done that, hope it’s still ok. Send it all back and get them to test it

take a decent look to the specs buddy

I doubt any reasonable person would do anything other than take the power supply provided and plug it in. No ones gonna check the manual to make sure it’s the right power unit before playing their new toy.

If you want to be on the safe side of your investment definitely get them to check and see if there’s any damage or return it. If you don’t have a warranty with either Elektron or the store you bought it from, you should be absolutely cautious about the unit and damage inflicted to it due to this mishap.

Yeah I’m going to return it, she’s under warrenty so all good there I hope, it is the shops cock up so I think they have to take fully responsability there huh, such a pain the behind this, part of me says just wait for a new psu and the other says get it back , this machine is for the long run, think i’ll go with the other!

It’s extremely unlikely that you would be able to damage the Rytm by accidentally using the PSU-2 power supply instead of the PSU-3.

can you explain why? would love to keep this thing but i need to be 100% certain there could be no long term damage ?

Most modern devices are built in such a way that they don’t immediately break when you accidentally hook up the wrong power supply. The PSU-2 delivers 6V, the PSU-3 12V. It’s unlikely that applying a lower voltage will result in any damage (compared to feeding it 24V or 48V, for example).

If you’re unsure, you can also file a support ticket with Elektron to ask them about this.

That’s possibly what i’d want to do - but if you look at the forums you will see that this happens ALL THE TIME, people accidentally use the wrong psu with their box and get in a panic - never caused any issues - having said that you should do what makes you feel comfortable - this aspect is trivial compared to the issues that arise from it being a shop model IMHO to give the PSU issue some context

@Ryan yeah bro, but i would def. check that even before typing a question! just check the specs on www.elektron.se easy

yeah you could , but how does one know that the store didnt already test this psu to see if it lit up before sending out , it was a floor model after all …

Hey guys , just had news from elektron , from the horses mouth “This will not cause permanent damage to your machine, you can safely keep it.”

well thank god for that

Yeah, it’s overvolting that’s bad news. You can cook an OT by using a Rytm PSU on it, so be careful you dark trinity owners.

D O N T do it! … did OT A4 psu mixup by accident… weird shit on display and eventually nothing worked. DO NOT DO THAT

what? elektron said that? I actually highly doubt that since…look below comment from me … I mixed OT and A4 psu and it stopped working. hence I assume elektron gave you a wrong answer.

did the octatrack stop working or the analog four ? i emailed them other day and they said not to worry , it cant harm it , their words…

yeah. :elot: - 6V
Rytm -12V

right my psu should be here in an hr or so and johnny and yes I will checking this in future from now on , well maybe not a brand new unit but for certain i will for floor models/ used

oh its going to be a long hr
